1. CHIEF ENGINEER

Location: Dar Es Salaam Serena Hotel – Tanzania
(Operational Unit Role)

Position Summary

The Chief Engineer is responsible for the full operational management of all engineering systems and infrastructure within the Dar Es Salaam Serena Hotel.

The role ensures uninterrupted operation of:

MEP systems
HVAC
Power generation
Fire and life safety systems
All physical assets of the property

The position safeguards asset integrity, regulatory compliance, safety standards, and guest comfort, while leading the engineering team on property.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage the Engineering Department at unit level.
Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
Ensure compliance with all statutory, environmental, and safety regulations.
Maintain required certifications (LQA, SGS, HACCP, ISO, OSHA, NEMA, etc.).
Manage engineering budgets, cost controls, and supplier contracts.
Oversee capital projects, refurbishments, and infrastructure upgrades.
Ensure energy optimization and sustainability initiatives at property level.
Respond to guest feedback relating to maintenance and physical product.
Lead crisis preparedness relating to engineering systems.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Building Services Engineering from a recognized institution.
Professional registration with a relevant Engineering Regulatory Body (mandatory or strongly preferred depending on jurisdiction).
Minimum 8–10 years of progressive experience in engineering and maintenance leadership within luxury hospitality or large-scale facilities.
Demonstrated expertise in:
- MEP systems
- HVAC
- Power generation and distribution
- Fire & life safety systems
- Building Management Systems (BMS)
Proven experience in budget preparation, cost control, and CAPEX planning.
Strong leadership track record managing multidisciplinary engineering teams.
