The Public Service Recruitment Secretariat, on behalf of Tanzania Railways Corporation (TRC), invites applications from qualified, self-driven, results-oriented and high-caliber Tanzanian professionals with integrity to fill the following 24 vacant positions.
1. INSTRUCTOR II (CIVIL ENGINEER)
Number of Posts: 1
Salary Scale: TRCS 6
Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct short courses and seminars in relevant areas of specialization, including instructional methods.
- Prepare course and lesson plans for respective subjects.
- Supervise students during practical training.
- Follow up and submit post-training evaluations.
- Plan and organize training programmes.
- Conduct courses and seminars for senior Corporation staff.
- Collect and analyse information and data related to the area of specialization.
- Audit training objectives and course contents and recommend training equipment and materials.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of instructors and prepare appropriate reports.
- Conduct research on instructional needs within and outside TRC.
- Conduct consultations and research on training matters in collaboration with district and headquarters officers.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree (NTA Level 8 or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or an equivalent relevant field.
- Minimum GPA of 3.5 from a recognized institution.
- Must be eligible for registration as a Technical Teacher.
- Must be registered by the relevant Board as a Graduate Engineer/Professional.
2. INSTRUCTOR II (MECHANICAL ENGINEER)
Number of Posts: 1
Salary Scale: TRCS 6
Duties and Responsibilities

3. ARTISAN II (AUTO ELECTRIC)
Number of Posts: 5
Salary Scale: TRCS 1
Duties and Responsibilities
- Install, maintain and repair electrical systems in plants, machinery and motor vehicles.
- Diagnose and rectify electrical faults in equipment and machinery.
- Conduct preventive maintenance of electrical components.
- Test and replace faulty electrical parts and systems.
- Support the installation and commissioning of electrical equipment.
- Perform any other relevant duties assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications and Experience
- Form IV Certificate.
- CBET Level II/III, Trade Test Grade I/II, or NVA II/III in Auto Electric or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
4. TECHNICIAN II (AUTOMOBILE)
Number of Posts: 4
Salary Scale: TRCS 3
Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervise and participate in the maintenance and repair of plants, machinery, motor vehicles and construction equipment.
- Perform routine maintenance, including oil and brake changes.
- Repair or replace worn, old or defective vehicle parts and test systems after repairs.
- Maintain detailed repair records.
- Communicate with service advisors regarding diagnosed problems, required repairs and repair timelines.
- Ensure tools and work areas are clean, operational and safe.
- Keep up to date with new automotive technology and repair best practices.
Qualifications and Experience
- Form IV/VI Certificate.
- Diploma/NTA Level 6 in Automobile Engineering/Automotive Mechanics or relevant qualification from a recognized institution.
5. TECHNICIAN II (HYDRAULIC MACHINERIES)
Number of Posts: 2
Salary Scale: TRCS 3
Duties and Responsibilities
- Undertake maintenance of rolling stock and locomotives.
- Maintain workshop machinery and plants.
- Service refrigeration and air-conditioning facilities.
- Service mechanical handling equipment and ancillary plants.
- Assist the supervisor in maintaining records.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications and Experience
- Form IV/VI Certificate with Full Technician Certificate (FTC); OR
- Ordinary Diploma in Mechanical Engineering with specialization in Hydraulic Machineries; OR
- Equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
6. ENGINEER II (SIGNAL & TELECOMMUNICATION)
Number of Posts: 1
Salary Scale: TRCS 6
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in maintaining Signal and Telecommunication (S&T) equipment and systems.
- Assist in installation of SGR/MGR signals and telecommunication networks and equipment.
- Assist in preparing specifications for procurement of signal and telecommunication equipment and gadgets.
- Prepare technical plans and designs for signal and telecommunication projects.
- Prepare and submit periodic technical reports.
- Perform any other related duties assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications and Experience
Holder of a Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following:
- Electrical Engineering
- Telecommunication Engineering
- Electronics Engineering
- Equivalent relevant field
The applicant must also be registered by the Engineers Registration Board (ERB) as a Graduate Engineer.
7. LOCOMOTIVE DRIVER II
Number of Posts: 10
Salary Scale: TRCS 3
Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform shunting duties within station yards, sidings and running depots at the home station.
- Check locomotive fitness before use.
- Report any problems identified during driving.
- Record important events occurring during shunting.
- Record fuel balance at the beginning and end of shunting duties.
- Perform any other related duties assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications and Experience
- Form IV Academic Certificate.
- Two (2) years Locomotive Driving Certificate or Locomotive Shunting Certificate offered by TIRTEC or another recognized institution.
- Class F or G Driving Licence.
GENERAL CONDITIONS
- Applicants must be citizens of the United Republic of Tanzania and generally must not be above 45 years of age.
- For vacancies in paramilitary institutions:
- Non-degree applicants must not exceed 25 years.
- Degree applicants must not exceed 30 years.
