Ifakara Health Institute (IHI) is a leading African health research organization involved in research, training, and services across areas including biomedical and ecological sciences, intervention studies, health systems research, service delivery, and policy translation.

Position Summary

The Gardener will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and appearance of the assigned environment and grounds, supporting office operations, and performing general duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Key Responsibilities

• Regularly clean buildings and ensure they remain clean and well maintained.
• Remove waste and dispose of it appropriately in designated waste bins.
• Provide general support to office staff when required.
• Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor.
• Attend administrative meetings as required.
• Maintain the assigned grounds and garden areas.

Required Skills and Competencies

Applicants should demonstrate:

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Knowledge of workplace health and safety practices.
• Good teamwork and collaboration skills.
• Effective time-management skills.
• Good communication skills.

Education Requirements

Applicants should have completed at least one of the following:

• Primary education
• Secondary education
• Vocational training

Experience

• Solid experience in gardening and landscaping is required.

Language Requirement

• Fluency in Swahili, both written and verbal.
