About the Role

C-Weed Mwani is expanding its activities in seaweed cultivation, marine resource management, laboratory quality control, R&D, agricultural biostimulants, and product development.

The Laboratory Technician will support Quality Control, Laboratory and R&D activities, particularly through physicochemical, analytical and microbiological testing of seaweed, seaweed-derived products, agricultural biostimulants, food-related materials and products under development.

The ideal candidate should be comfortable working in both wet chemistry and microbiology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine physicochemical and analytical testing of raw materials, intermediate products and finished products.
  • Perform wet chemistry analyses using approved laboratory methods.
  • Conduct microbiological testing, including media preparation, sample preparation and microbial enumeration.
  • Operate, maintain and perform basic troubleshooting of laboratory equipment.
  • Prepare reagents, standards, solutions and culture media.
  • Perform laboratory calculations and accurately record test results.
  • Maintain complete laboratory documentation and records.
  • Assist with method verification, method development and laboratory R&D.
  • Support sampling, sample preparation and testing activities.
  • Maintain laboratory records in accordance with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP).
  • Follow laboratory SOPs, safety procedures and quality-control requirements.
  • Support laboratory systems aligned with ISO/IEC 17025.
  • Participate in equipment calibration, verification and routine maintenance.
  • Identify abnormal or out-of-specification results and report analytical problems appropriately.
  • Maintain laboratory cleanliness, organization and chemical safety.
  • Support QC and R&D testing activities as required.

Desirable Equipment Experience

Experience with the following would be an advantage:

  • UV-Visible Spectrophotometer
  • Viscometer
  • Muffle Furnace
  • Soxhlet Apparatus
  • Other routine analytical and microbiological laboratory equipment

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants should have:

  • Diploma in Laboratory Technology, Laboratory Sciences, Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, Microbiology, or a closely related discipline.
  • Practical laboratory experience is strongly preferred.

Required Technical Competencies

  • Wet chemistry and analytical laboratory techniques
  • Basic microbiological techniques
  • Accurate sample preparation and laboratory testing
  • Laboratory documentation and data management
  • Understanding of GLP and laboratory quality systems
  • Basic understanding of ISO/IEC 17025
  • Ability to follow SOPs and standardized analytical methods
  • Ability to interpret laboratory results and identify unusual or inconsistent results

Added Advantages

Candidates with any of the following may have an advantage:

  • Tissue culture
  • Biotechnology or biochemistry
  • Food, agricultural, environmental or natural-product laboratory experience
  • Method validation or verification experience
