Education & Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related engineering discipline. Relevant academic and professional certificates must be provided.
  • Mechanical and Plumbing Trade Certificate or equivalent technical qualification.
  • Professional registration with a recognised engineering body will be an added advantage.
Experience
  • Minimum 7 years’ supervisory hands-on experience in MEP construction and maintenance.
  • Proven experience supervising technicians and site-based MEP works.
  • Minimum 3 years’ engineering experience relevant in MEP construction and maintenance.
Desirable Experience
  • Practical experience in ducting installation and fabrication.
  • Experience maintaining and troubleshooting air-conditioning and HVAC systems.
  • Experience in testing, commissioning, and handover of MEP systems.
  • Experience working on commercial, hospitality, residential, or large-scale construction projects.
  • Experience working with international contractors, consultants, or project teams.
Skills & Competencies

Role Purpose
People Project Co. Limited is recruiting on behalf of a well-established organisation operating in Zanzibar for an experienced MEP Engineer / MEP Supervisor to support its construction projects and ongoing maintenance contracts. The successful candidate will be responsible for the hands-on supervision, coordination, and delivery of mechanical and plumbing works, including HVAC, plumbing, drainage, installation, testing, commissioning, and maintenance activities across project sites.
General Responsibilities
MEP Installation, Construction & Maintenance
  • Supervise and coordinate mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, drainage, and related MEP installation and maintenance activities across project sites.
  • Ensure MEP systems are installed, operated, and maintained in accordance with approved drawings, technical specifications, applicable standards, and project requirements.
  • Plan and coordinate daily MEP activities, ensuring appropriate manpower, materials, tools, and equipment are available to maintain project progress.
  • Monitor the installation, maintenance, repair, and servicing of HVAC systems, plumbing networks, drainage systems, pumps, water supply systems, and associated mechanical equipment.
  • Identify technical faults and site issues, coordinate corrective actions, and minimise delays, rework, and disruption to project activities.
  • Support preventive maintenance activities and ensure MEP systems remain operational, reliable, and fit for purpose.
Project Coordination & Technical Support
  • Read, interpret, and work directly from MEP drawings, layouts, specifications, BOQs, schedules, and other technical documentation.
  • Coordinate MEP works with civil, structural, architectural, finishing, and other construction activities to minimise service clashes and rework.
  • Supervise MEP contractors, technicians, plumbers, fabricators, installers, and other site personnel to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the required standard.
  • Support the installation, testing, commissioning, inspection, snagging, and handover of completed MEP systems.
  • Review site conditions and identify potential technical or installation challenges, escalating complex matters to the MEP Division Head where required.
  • Coordinate with clients, consultants, contractors, and other project stakeholders during technical inspections, site meetings, testing, and handover activities.
Quality, Compliance & Workmanship
  • Ensure all MEP installations and maintenance works meet approved drawings, specifications, quality standards, and applicable technical requirements.
  • Monitor workmanship, material utilisation, installation methods, and productivity to ensure efficient use of resources and minimise wastage.
  • Conduct routine inspections of MEP works and ensure defects, snags, and non-conformities are identified and rectified promptly.
  • Ensure completed installations are properly tested, commissioned, documented, and ready for client acceptance and handover.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, testing, commissioning, maintenance activities, site issues, and corrective actions.
Site Reporting & Performance Management
  • Prepare and submit accurate daily site reports covering work progress, manpower, materials, equipment, challenges, safety matters, and outstanding activities.
  • Monitor progress against agreed project programmes and proactively highlight potential delays, resource constraints, or technical challenges.
  • Provide regular updates to the MEP Division Head on project progress, maintenance activities, technical issues, and required interventions.
  • Support the preparation of project documentation, completion records, testing certificates, snagging reports, and handover documentation.
Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance
  • Ensure all MEP activities are carried out in accordance with occupational health, safety, environmental, and statutory requirements.
  • Enforce safe working practices across MEP activities, including appropriate use of PPE, tools, equipment, access systems, and work procedures.
  • Identify and report site hazards, unsafe practices, and potential risks, ensuring appropriate corrective action is taken.
  • Participate in toolbox talks, site inspections, risk assessments, and other HSE initiatives as required.
Materials, Resources & Cost Control
  • Monitor the availability and utilisation of MEP materials, tools, equipment, and consumables required for project and maintenance activities.
  • Control material usage and minimise unnecessary wastage, damage, rework, and avoidable project costs.
  • Identify material and equipment requirements in advance and communicate shortages or procurement requirements to the MEP Division Head.
  • Ensure tools, equipment, and site resources are properly maintained, stored, and utilised.
Leadership & Team Management
  • Lead, supervise, and coordinate technicians, plumbers, fabricators, installers, helpers, and other MEP personnel assigned to the site.
  • Allocate daily work activities, monitor productivity, and ensure teams have clear instructions and the resources required to perform effectively.
  • Provide practical technical guidance and support to site teams, ensuring work is completed correctly and efficiently.
  • Promote teamwork, accountability, discipline, safety awareness, and quality workmanship across the MEP team.
  • Monitor contractor and subcontractor performance and ensure adherence to agreed quality standards, timelines, and site requirements.
Maintenance & Technical Support
  • Carry out and coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance of HVAC, air-conditioning, plumbing, drainage, pumps, and associated mechanical systems.
  • Diagnose equipment and system faults and coordinate timely repairs to minimise downtime and disruption.
  • Maintain appropriate maintenance records, equipment histories, inspection reports, and service documentation.
  • Provide technical support during breakdowns, emergency repairs, and other maintenance-related issues.
  • Identify opportunities to improve system reliability, energy efficiency, equipment performance, and overall lifecycle costs.
