Key Outputs and Responsibilities

The Grumeti Lodge Manager will have overall responsibility for the management and operation of &Beyond Grumeti River Lodge, including:

  • Overall management of the lodge, including operations, guest experience, repairs and maintenance, kitchen, financial management, and staff management and development.
  • Direct line management of the Grumeti River Lodge senior management team and indirect management of the wider lodge team.
  • Creation, management, and control of budgets and forecasts in conjunction with the Lodge Administrator and Regional Finance Manager.
  • Management of lodge capital expenditure (CAPEX) programmes.
  • Human capital management and staff development.
  • Development and maintenance of all lodge infrastructure.
  • Maintenance and oversight of IT systems.
  • Management of security, emergency response, and fire control.
  • Reviewing healthcare facilities and evacuation arrangements.
  • Oversight of environmental health, including waste management, sanitation, mosquito control, and pest control.
  • Liaising with local, regional, and national government authorities and relevant stakeholders in conjunction with the Regional Manager.
  • Ensuring compliance with local licences, permits, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Working with Wild Impact on conservation and community projects and partnerships.
  • Ensuring sustainability targets are achieved and continuously improved year on year.
  • Conducting and maintaining lodge risk assessments and ensuring compliance.
  • Managing the lodge’s social media platforms, including Facebook and Instagram.
  • Ensuring regular stories and updates are shared with the &Beyond team.
  • Maintaining a strong presence for Grumeti River Lodge in internal communications, including Bateleur Magazine.
  • Willingness to travel to and from various &Beyond camps and lodges.

Hospitality Responsibilities

  • Build upon the existing guest experience by developing new ideas and ensuring the product remains fresh and modern while staying true to the history of the area.
  • Enhance guest experiences through guest delights, accommodation, food, staff, and activities.
  • Build and maintain relationships with new and repeat guests.
  • Maintain and reinforce an environment where the &Beyond Golden Thread and Brand Standards are continuously met and visible throughout the daily operation of the property.
  • Ensure camp to-do lists are actioned and completed within budget.
  • Maximise procurement efficiencies.

Knowledge and Experience Required

  • At least 3–5 years of management experience in a five-star boutique operation.
  • Lodge and camp management experience is an advantage.
  • Hospitality and service training experience.

Skills and Competencies Required

  • Energetic and proactive, with a strong understanding of the importance of delivering a world-class guest experience.
  • Passion for sustainable tourism and conservation.
  • Driven, energetic, compassionate, and ambitious, with strong leadership and mentoring skills.
  • Unrelenting attention to detail and high standards.
  • Structured management approach with experience leading diverse teams.
  • Practical approach, with some experience in maintenance.
  • Experience in mobile camping and safaris is advantageous.
  • Open-minded and able to think outside the box.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire yourself and others.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Competent financial and IT skills.
  • Fluent English is essential.

  • The position is based at Grumeti River Lodge, Mara Region, Tanzania.
  • This is a permanent live-in position.
  • Medical and travel allowance are provided in accordance with &Beyond policy.
  • The successful candidate must be willing to travel to and from various camps and lodges.
