Job Summary

The Lodge Manager will be responsible for the overall day-to-day management and smooth operation of the lodge, ensuring high standards of hospitality, guest satisfaction, staff performance, facility maintenance, and business performance.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the lodge and ensure all activities are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
  • Provide a welcoming lodge environment and maintain high standards of guest service and hospitality.
  • Manage, supervise, train, develop, motivate, and monitor lodge staff to ensure effective performance.
  • Maintain a safe, harmonious, and enjoyable working environment for employees.
  • Lead by example and promote a positive and professional work culture.
  • Manage unforeseen circumstances effectively and respond appropriately to changing operational conditions.
  • Identify operational issues and take timely and appropriate action to resolve them.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, applicable laws, HR requirements, and tourism grading standards.
  • Maintain good working relationships with other companies and departments within the group.
  • Oversee lodge facilities, infrastructure, assets, and technical maintenance to ensure they are properly maintained and utilized.
  • Work closely with the Finance Department on lodge financial administration, budgeting, and bookkeeping matters.
  • Plan, organize, implement, monitor, evaluate, and report on lodge operations and performance.
  • Develop short- and long-term operational plans to support the sustainability and growth of the lodge as a tourism destination.
  • Develop and implement an appropriate business plan for the lodge.
  • Monitor business performance and ensure lodge assets and resources are utilized effectively to maximize revenue.
  • Ensure the lodge maintains required service, infrastructure, and operational quality standards.
  • Provide regular operational and performance updates to the General Manager and immediately escalate critical issues when necessary.
  • Ensure staff and lodge operations comply with established policies, procedures, and applicable laws.
  • Perform any other duties and responsibilities assigned by management from time to time.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management, Tourism, Hotel Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in lodge, hotel, or hospitality management, preferably within the tourism or safari industry.
  • Strong leadership, people-management, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Good understanding of lodge operations, guest service, budgeting, and business management.
  • Ability to manage staff and operations independently in a remote environment.
  • Ability to handle pressure, make sound decisions, and manage unforeseen operational challenges.
  • Knowledge of safari lodge operations and tourism industry standards is an added advantage.
  • Experience working in remote, upcountry, or out-of-town locations is highly desirable/required.
  • Must be comfortable living and working away from the city.

Performance

Performance will be evaluated against Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) established by management from time to time.
