Job Objective

The Tradesperson 1 – UG HV Electrical will be responsible for managing electrical maintenance activities within underground operations. The role covers underground electrical reticulation systems, dewatering facilities, camp facilities and infrastructure, overhead power lines, power generation, medium-voltage activities and ventilation systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform electrical fault diagnostics on equipment and machinery to identify faults.
  • Attend to electrical breakdowns involving equipment and machines such as Sandvik Jumbo drilling rigs, Solos, Cubex equipment and Stalker pumps, replacing damaged or faulty components where necessary.
  • Conduct checks and tests to verify the success of repair work and ensure equipment returns to normal operation.
  • Assemble and install electrical and electronic systems on equipment.
  • Perform routine maintenance on machines to ensure maximum output in accordance with designed standards.
  • Cooperate with stakeholders and assist in coordinating electrical works to optimize equipment performance and efficiency.
  • Respond promptly to breakdowns and return equipment to production with minimum disruption while maintaining quality and safety standards.
  • Carry out planned maintenance activities in accordance with maintenance schedules.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining maintenance schedules according to operational requirements.
  • Carry out high-voltage tasks related to project works.
  • Perform all electrical works in accordance with company safety standards and procedures.
  • Comply with organizational and statutory health and safety requirements.
  • Perform additional duties within one’s capability and capacity when required in exceptional circumstances.
  • Ensure electrical equipment, tools and machines are maintained in good working condition at all times.
  • Demonstrate reliability and willingness to work as required by the immediate supervisor.
  • Work effectively as part of a team and utilize full potential while on duty.
  • Complete all required legal documents and forms accurately and submit them to the immediate supervisor on time for record-keeping and compliance.

Qualifications and Requirements

Education and Qualifications

Applicants should have:

  • Form IV Certificate.
  • High Voltage Training Certificate.
  • VETA Trade Test Grade One in Electrical or Level Three Industrial Electricity Certificate.
  • Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering will be an added advantage.
  • Valid Tanzanian driving licence and demonstrated driving competency.

Experience

  • At least three (3) years of experience working on underground equipment.
  • Experience in high-voltage switching.
  • Previous experience in a similar role or experience working with high-voltage electrical equipment installed underground.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong knowledge of high-voltage electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of electrical diagnostic tools and fault-finding techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and circuit diagrams.
  • Ability to carry out electrical wiring, installation and repairs.
  • Strong manual skills and precision when performing repairs and testing.
  • Good problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of electrical PLC systems.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Good organizational skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to act as a supervisor when assigned.
  • Professional conduct and commitment to company standards.
  • Ability to perform assigned duties to the required standard and capacity.
  • Ability to identify and communicate situations that may create obstacles to, or opportunities for, the work of the management team or company.
