Job Vacancy at Catholic University of Health and Allied Sciences (CUHAS), Mwanza
The Catholic University of Health and Allied Sciences (CUHAS), owned by the Tanzania Episcopal Conference (TEC), is a higher learning institution in Mwanza providing academic and professional training to more than 3,500 students. The University offers diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in medicine, nursing, pharmacy, medical laboratory sciences, radiography and other health-related disciplines.
CUHAS is inviting applications from qualified, competent and motivated Tanzanian citizens for the following positions.
1. Tutorial Assistant – 5 Posts
Weill Bugando School of Medicine
- Department of Psychiatry – 2 Posts
- Department of General Surgery – 1 Post
- Department of Critical Care – 1 Post
- Department of Pediatrics and Child Health – 1 Post
Qualifications
Applicants must:
- Hold an MD or equivalent degree.
- Have scored at least B in the relevant subject.
- Have a GPA of 3.5 or above.
- Be registered with the Medical Council of Tanganyika (MCT) or the relevant professional Council/Board.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct tutorials for undergraduate students.
- Supervise seminars.
- Teach Certificate and Diploma courses where assigned.
- Mark non-assessed coursework assignments and provide feedback.
- Respond to student queries concerning module content and delivery.
- Provide academic advice to students where necessary.
- Supervise students’ work where appropriate.
- Ensure required teaching materials and equipment are available.
- Assist with assembling and dismantling laboratory apparatus where appropriate.
- Work with demonstrators and other tutorial assistants to ensure practical classes run effectively and according to timetable requirements.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
2. Tutor – School of Diagnostic Radiography – 4 Posts
Institute of Allied Health Sciences
Qualifications
Applicants must:
- Hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Imaging or equivalent qualification.
- Have scored at least B in the relevant subject.
- Have a GPA of 3.5 or above.
- Be registered by the relevant professional Council/Board.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Teach diploma students.
- Prepare materials and equipment required for practical exercises and classes.
- Conduct practical exercises for students under close supervision.
- Assist with technical duties requiring planning, design and organization of practical sessions for diploma and undergraduate students.
- Assist in research and development activities, including consultancy activities.
- Plan and supervise maintenance of laboratory facilities and equipment.
- Assist senior staff with administrative duties.
- Perform any other assignments as directed by senior staff.
3. Senior Warden I – 1 Post
Student Welfare Department
Qualifications
Applicants must hold a Master’s Degree in one of the following fields:
- Education
- Education Management
- Psychology
- Counselling
- Sociology
- Social Welfare
- Home Economics
- Relevant equivalent qualification from a recognized institution
Applicants must also have at least three years of relevant work experience in a similar position, gained after obtaining the Master’s degree and preferably from a reputable institution.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Handle students’ social welfare cases.
- Disseminate University directives to students.
- Maintain accurate student welfare records.
- Identify behavioural trends that may require intervention.
- Administer student welfare services.
- Facilitate activities of the Students’ Organisation.
- Participate in career guidance and counselling.
- Help maintain a conducive learning environment.
- Handle students’ disciplinary matters.
- Assist students in obtaining permits from relevant authorities.
- Present students’ needs to the Dean of Students and other relevant University authorities.
- Guide students in observing University by-laws and regulations.
- Assist the Dean of Students in organizing and implementing orientation programmes for new students.
- Develop extracurricular programmes with the Students’ Organisation to promote students’ personal growth and development.
- Participate in developing and coordinating student welfare policies and procedures.
- Supervise and monitor cleanliness of hostels and surrounding areas.
- Perform any other related duties assigned by the reporting officer.
4. Attendant I – 1 Post
Student Welfare Department
Qualifications
Applicants must hold:
- National Form IV or Form VI Certificate, with passes in English and Kiswahili.
- Basic Certificate in Home Economics, Electrical, Masonry or Plumbing from VETA or another recognized institution.
Other Skills
- Good computer skills.
- Personal organization and planning skills.
- Ability to follow safety rules.
- Report-writing skills.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervise daily cleaning of student hostels, common areas and restrooms.
- Supervise outdoor cleaning.
- Carry out minor repairs, including replacement of light bulbs, door locks and other minor works.
- Conduct periodic inspections of utilities at the beginning and end of academic sessions.
- Prepare reports on incidents and events concerning student hostels and residents.
- Promote health and safety in and around hostels.
- Ensure availability and maintenance of equipment and cleaning materials.
- Assist in maintaining proper residence records.
- Assist in ensuring security around student hostels and residences.
- Assist in enforcing students’ rules and regulations.
- Perform any other related duties assigned by the reporting officer.
