2. Job Overview
Coca-Cola Beverages Africa is inviting applications from qualified candidates for the position of Quality Controller within its Manufacturing team in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
The successful candidate will perform general and specialist analyses, interpret results, and resolve problems identified through quality testing. The role also involves facilitating problem-solving sessions, coaching and mentoring employees, conducting quality audits, and ensuring that corrective actions are implemented effectively.
3. Key Duties and Responsibilities
A. Performing Analysis
- Conduct relevant analyses as required.
- Review daily analysis schedules and complete all required tests.
- Record information in the Infinity system or Microsoft Excel where Infinity has not yet been implemented.
- Analyse data trends to identify quality problems and areas requiring corrective action.
B. Interpreting Results
- Review daily analysis results to identify potential problems.
- Communicate results and highlight issues to laboratory technicians, production management, and operating teams.
- Ensure that appropriate solutions are identified for problems revealed by analyses.
- Prepare required reports and communicate findings during feedback meetings.
C. Problem-Solving
- Initiate problem-solving activities in response to analysis results, specific requests, or out-of-control triggers.
- Apply appropriate problem-solving techniques.
- Develop action plans to resolve identified problems.
- Record identified gaps on the gap list.
- Engage specialist resources when additional technical support is required.
- Verify that corrective actions have been implemented and that identified problems have been resolved.
- Update relevant manuals and work instructions to prevent recurrence of problems.
D. Facilitating Problem-Solving Sessions
- Facilitate problem-solving sessions in response to specific requests or identified triggers.
- Coordinate with production management, the QC Manager, laboratory technicians, and operations teams to ensure the appropriate people participate.
- Apply suitable problem-solving techniques, including FFA as referenced in the job description.
- Develop action plans, assign responsibilities, and document gaps on the gap list.
- Verify that corrective actions are completed and that the problems have been resolved.
E. Coaching and Training
- Participate in training-needs analyses and quality audits to identify teams and individuals requiring coaching.
- Complete quality-related CAP assessments as required.
- Work continuously with laboratory technicians, production teams, and operational teams to identify coaching needs.
- Coach laboratory technicians and production teams on quality standards and quality analysis, both routinely and when specific needs arise.
F. Quality Auditing
- Review the audit schedule to identify required monthly, quarterly, and ad hoc quality audits.
- Coordinate with laboratory technicians, production teams, and operational teams to obtain information needed for audits.
- Complete audit reports.
- Provide feedback to the QC Manager and present audit findings during feedback meetings.
G. Equipment Maintenance
- Perform maintenance activities according to the instrumentation maintenance schedule.
- Apply problem-solving techniques to DO equipment to identify maintenance problems or issues.
- Request specialist assistance where necessary.
- Verify that maintenance has been completed correctly and that equipment is functioning properly.
4. Qualifications and Requirements
Education
- A Bachelor of Science degree in Food Science and Technology, Laboratory Science, or a related field.
Experience
- A minimum of three years of experience in a food-processing plant.
- Good knowledge of processing operations, preferably in a bottling environment.
- Experience in a quality-control environment is an added advantage.
