About SRATA

The Six Rivers Africa Training Academy (SRATA), is a residential academy that trains young people in hospitality, preparing them for employment in safari camps, lodges and hotels.

Position Overview

The English Teacher will report directly to the Manager – SRATA, who provides overall supervision, direction and performance oversight for the role. He/sheis responsible for helping students improve their English language skills and develop the ability to read, write and speak English fluently. The role prepares students for success in tourism and other institutions, using English as a medium of communication, while fostering a love of learning and appreciation for the language.

The English Teacher organizes classroom sessions, prepares materials and activities such as English language clubs and debates, assesses and supports students, and works with teaching staff and administrators to ensure a good student experience.

 Essentials Duties And Responsibilities

1.      Teaching and Language Development

• To help students improve their English language skills.
•  To develop students’ ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
• To prepare students for success in tourism and other institutions through English as a medium of communication.
•  Teach practical hospitality English relevant to guest service, food and beverage service, housekeeping, and kitchen operations.
• Provide basic English training for academy staff to improve everyday and workplace communication.
• To foster a love of learning and appreciation for the English language in students.

2.      Classroom Management and Learning Activities

• To organize classroom sessions.
• Teach basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email, internet use, and file management.
• Organize game nights and movie nights alongside English clubs and debates to strengthen students’ English, confidence, and teamwork.
• Prepare structured lesson plans, submit teaching plans, and progress reports within the academy’s agreed deadlines.
• To prepare materials and activities like English language clubs and debates.
• To assign interesting exercises to students.
• Manage classroom crises and resolve conflict.

3.      Student Assessment and Support

• Identify students with special requirements and create individualized plans.
• Determine exam and assignment grades.
• Provide feedback based on classroom behavior and student’s progress.
•  Keep a record of students’ attendance and grades.
• Maintain accurate records of students’ assessments, tests, and examination results, and prepare individual progress reports.

4.      Professional Development and Collaboration

• Research new language teaching methods.
• Collaborate with teaching staff and administrators to foster a good student experience.

5.      Other Duties

• Any other duty(ies) that may be assigned by supervisor within the kitchen area.
• Follow the academy’s safeguarding procedures, maintain professional boundaries, and report student welfare concerns promptly.
