Position Purpose

This role is responsible for diagnostic fault finding on mechanical and electrical systems, breakdown repairs, and the servicing of heavy mining equipment as guided by supervisors and trainers.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Safety & Compliance: Comply with all HS&E policies, use safety devices correctly, and report hazards or accidents immediately.

• Maintenance: Perform pre-start checks and SWICs. Ensure all equipment and tools are safe and serviceable before use.

• Operational Efficiency: Minimize equipment downtime and maximize productivity.

• Collaboration: Liaise with the underground shift supervisor regarding equipment status and safe return-to-service timelines.

• Servicing: Carry out scheduled servicing of mobile equipment in accordance with service sheets.

• Documentation: Ensure accurate recording of all maintenance activities.

• Inventory & Housekeeping: Maintain high standards of workshop cleanliness and ensure spare parts are kept at required stock levels.

• Technical Support: Read and interpret service and spare parts manuals. Report equipment faults for workshop scheduling.

Essential Requirements

• Experience: Proven experience in the underground (UG) mining industry is essential.

• Technical Knowledge: Strong background with underground mobile equipment (Caterpillar, Normet, Sandvik, Mercedes, Toyota, RCT, and Volvo).

• Qualifications: Relevant Trade Qualification and at least 2 years of post-apprenticeship experience.

• Skills: High proficiency in troubleshooting, auto electrics, hydraulic circuits, and diesel engine maintenance.

• Licensing: Tanzanian Heavy Vehicle Class Driver’s License.

• Education: Completion of secondary school with basic numeracy and verbal/written English skills.

• Health: Basic first aid knowledge.
