The Role
The Data Manager will play a critical role in supporting the scientific and operational success of the Kikohozi Classifier project. You will ensure that all data collected (including cough sound recordings and clinical data from 30,000 participants) is accurate, secure, and ethically managed. The role involves overseeing the entire data flow from collection to AI/ML analysis.
Position Responsibilities

Database Management: Design, develop, and maintain a secure central project database in collaboration with ETH Lab at MUHAS.

Data Flow: Implement tools for efficient entry, cleaning, retrieval, and quality monitoring; ensure compatibility with AI/ML training requirements.

Quality Control: Establish audit procedures to detect inconsistencies and ensure data integrity across multiple collection sites.

Compliance & Security: Ensure adherence to GDPR-equivalent principles, ethical standards, and participant confidentiality; oversee encryption and access protocols.

Analysis Support: Process and clean datasets for statistical and AI/ML modeling; generate descriptive reports and summaries for publications and donors.

Training & Mentorship: Train field research assistants on standardized protocols; mentor junior staff and AKU students on data management techniques.

Collaboration: Work closely with project investigators, the AI/ML team, and partner institutions (MUHAS, University of Warwick).
Professional Skills, Qualifications, and Experience

Education: * Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Biostatistics, or Health Informatics.

Master’s degree (preferred) in Health Informatics, Epidemiology, or Data Management.

Experience: Minimum 2–3 years of progressive project data management experience, including compliance with donor frameworks (e.g., UKRI, MRC).

Technical Skills: * Proficiency in SQL, REDCap, MySQL, and PostgreSQL.

Experience with unstructured data for AI/ML and visualization tools like Tableau or Power BI.

Governance: Strong grasp of health research workflows, data security, and ethics approvals.

Soft Skills: Strong leadership, multi-disciplinary collaboration, and the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights.
