Role Purpose
The primary purpose of this role is to manage and strengthen relationships with assigned Distribution Centres (DCs) to ensure the achievement of the company’s distribution and sales targets through effective execution, performance management, and business development.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
Distribution Strategy & Planning
- Develop strategic business plans aligned with overall distribution and sales objectives.
- Liaise closely with the Distributor Manager to ensure distribution strategies and execution plans are clearly understood and implemented.
- Ensure call schedules are approved and adhered to by Distribution Centres.
- Ensure DC logistics infrastructure aligns with company operational requirements.
- Analyse competitor strategies within each DC’s area and collate relevant market intelligence for communication to TBL.
DC Efficiency & Effectiveness
- Support DCs to achieve and exceed agreed performance targets.
- Review sales targets and monitor performance against objectives.
- Ensure DCs understand and comply with commercial terms agreed with the company.
- Ensure DCs fully understand expected deliverables and performance standards.
- Conduct monthly performance analyses and quarterly formal performance reviews, implementing corrective action plans where required.
- Measure and monitor distributor financial performance and profitability.
- Support DCs in developing cost-minimisation strategies.
- Ensure DCs deliver more than 85% of volume directly to retail outlets.
- Train DC staff in sales and administrative functions.
- Manage pricing within the distribution network.
DC Business Development
- Develop annual business plans for each DC in collaboration with the Distributor Manager, supporting identified growth and business development opportunities in line with TBL strategy.
- Ensure clear, documented demarcation of DC territories.
- Define and maintain appropriate stock holding and brand availability levels.
- Implement and enforce operating standards for all third-party business partners.
Information Planning & Performance Management
- Implement systems and tools to track, benchmark, and report DC performance against key initiatives and objectives.
- Monitor and track DC performance on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis to ensure timely interventions and continuous improvement.
Key Attributes and Competencies
- Strong understanding of sales and distribution processes, cost structures, and optimisation solutions.
- Solid knowledge of the trading environment within the allocated area.
- Budgeting and process management expertise.
- Strong commercial acumen.
- High level of computer literacy.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor of Commerce (BCom), IMM qualification, or a similar qualification in Distribution and Marketing.
- Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years’ management experience in a sales and/or finance environment.
- Valid driver’s license.
