Job Overview

Role Summary
The Accountant will support the development, implementation, and maintenance of departmental accounting systems, policies, and procedures. The role ensures accurate financial record-keeping and the integrity of financial information through effective processing, verification, and reconciliation of financial data.
Key objectives include:
- Collecting, processing, recording, and reconciling financial transactions
- Verifying the accuracy and validity of source documentation
- Maintaining comprehensive records of revenue, expenditure, assets, and liabilities
Preferred Qualifications and Experience
- Professional Experience: Minimum of 5 years’ experience as an Accountant, preferably within a school or educational environment
- Academic Qualification: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business, or Finance
- Professional Certification: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA)
Key Responsibilities
1. Ledger Management and Banking
- Maintain accounts to trial balance level and submit quarterly reports to the Accounts Manager (MA)
- Manage revenue and purchase ledgers, including invoicing and ensuring timely payment
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations
- Oversee weekly banking of cash and cheques
2. Cashflow and Payroll Management
- Prepare and update cash flow forecasts and budgets within agreed timelines
- Process payroll accurately, ensuring compliance with current laws, pension schemes, and PAYE regulations
3. Compliance, Reporting, and Auditing
- Assist in preparing draft accounts and quarterly VAT returns
- Liaise with external auditors and follow up on audit findings and management letters
- Support the planning and delivery of statutory reports, publications, and internal/external audits
Professional Competencies and Attributes
- Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of finance, budgeting, cost control, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Operational Effectiveness: Ability to manage competing priorities, meet strict deadlines, and identify financial risks
- Interpersonal Skills: Collaborative team player with empathy, cultural awareness, and strong listening skills
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of explaining complex financial information to diverse stakeholders
