Organizational Context

This position is based in the Tanzania Country Office (CO) in Dar es Salaam. The incumbent reports to the SO1 Activity Manager and supports the refugee operation.

The role requires close collaboration with Budget and Programming, Finance, RAM, Supply Chain units, and Sub-Offices. The position operates under minimal supervision and contributes to reporting accuracy, analysis, and information consistency.


Job Purpose

To provide technical and administrative support to the Activity Manager by ensuring timely and accurate reporting, effective data management, and analysis. The Programme Assistant contributes to evidence-based decision-making and enhanced programme performance through high-quality documentation, data visualization, and coordination support.


Key Responsibilities

(Not all-inclusive nor exhaustive)

  • Serve as focal point for collecting, analyzing, and consolidating programme information for refugee operations, including reports and proposals
  • Coordinate with Programme, Supply Chain, Budget and Programming Unit (BPU), and Sub-Offices to support operations
  • Ensure consistency and accuracy of data and narratives across all reporting products in line with WFP standards and timelines
  • Consolidate inputs from field offices and partners into comprehensive reports
  • Conduct basic statistical analysis and generate insights to inform programme decisions
  • Develop data visualizations such as charts and dashboards for internal and external reporting
  • Support budget follow-up with BPU on fund balances and expiry dates
  • Assist in monitoring progress against indicators and targets
  • Support coordination of meetings, workshops, and programme activities
  • Facilitate communication with partners, NGOs, agencies, and government counterparts
  • Support partner invoice review and partnership creation in COMET
  • Act as point of contact for SO1 at Country Office level when the SO1 Manager is out of office
  • Perform other duties as required

Desired Experience for Entry into the Role

  • Experience coordinating across multiple technical teams
  • Demonstrated experience in programme implementation, reporting, and data analysis
  • Exposure to policy discussions or policy-related work

Standard Minimum Academic Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Statistics, Development Studies, or a related field

Experience

  • Minimum 2–3 years of relevant experience in reporting, data analysis, or programme support
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and data visualization tools
  • Knowledge of WFP systems (COMET, SCOPE) is an asset

Language

  • Fluency in oral and written communication in the UN working language at the duty station and the duty station’s local language (if different)
