Role Purpose
The primary purpose of the Process Artisan role is to operate the assigned process area in accordance with approved work instructions, perform non-destructive quality checks, and carry out routine maintenance activities. The role has a strong focus on asset care, ensuring optimal equipment performance, quality output, and adherence to safety and operational standards.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
1. Operating & Process Control
- Operate the process area in line with work instructions and defined usage standards.
- Perform required quality checks as outlined in quality control and analysis procedures.
- Record waste accurately in the appropriate systems and review trends to identify issues or improvement opportunities.
- Monitor process performance against targets and complete all short interval control documentation.
- Respond promptly to upstream or downstream process disruptions to minimize stoppages.
- Apply approved problem-solving methodologies when deviations occur.
- Maintain high housekeeping standards through the application of 5S principles and safe work practices.
2. Communication & Team Participation
- Actively participate in shift meetings by asking questions, sharing insights, and proposing improvements.
- Record issues, problems, and opportunities on the team gap list.
- Understand team objectives and actively contribute to team performance review sessions.
- Use established communication tools (e.g. shift logbooks) to stay informed and ensure effective handovers.
3. Maintenance of Plant & Equipment
- Perform in-depth cleaning, lubrication, and inspection of machinery according to maintenance schedules and work instructions.
- Carry out routine maintenance activities and escalate unresolved or major issues to the Team Leader.
- Participate in planned maintenance and cleaning days.
- Monitor maintenance trends and initiate corrective actions when recurring issues are identified.
- Conduct non-destructive quality checks during operation and accurately record results in relevant systems.
4. Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement
- Apply structured problem-solving tools (e.g. 5 Why, Quick Fix routines, Fishbone diagrams).
- Collaborate with team members or escalate issues where problems cannot be resolved independently.
- Verify that corrective actions have effectively eliminated root causes.
- Use run/control charts and trend analysis to identify sources of waste and process variation.
- Document improvement opportunities and engage team members and specialists where required.
Key Attributes and Competencies
- Strong ability to troubleshoot and resolve machine-related issues.
- Ability to communicate technical knowledge effectively to operational staff.
- Capability to train, coach, and mentor colleagues on ATO and 5S principles.
- Proven ability to optimize usage, reduce waste, and implement permanent solutions.
- Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
- High level of self-management and accountability.
- Competence in basic and advanced problem-solving methodologies (5 Why, Fishbone, SDCA, PDCA).
- Ability to minimize machine downtime while ensuring sustainable corrective actions.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret graphical and trend data.
- Ability to identify non-standard work and tag defects with root causes.
- Ability to identify required spare parts for restoration activities.
- Proficiency in using electronic devices such as tablets, laptops, and other digital tools.
Minimum Requirements
- Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.
- At least 2 years’ experience in the beverage industry.
