Position Overview

  • Position: Research Fellow – Data Analyst

  • Location: Arusha, Tanzania (with travel to Kilimanjaro project sites)

  • Duration: Six months (April – September 2026)

  • Stipend: Competitive monthly stipend


Project Summary: INNOVET

The “Innovations in Informal Markets for Safe Vegetables in Tanzania” (INNOVET) project is a one-year initiative aimed at improving the safety and quality of fresh vegetables through postharvest management and branding. The study uses a quasi-experimental design to compare “safe” (treatment) value chains with “traditional” (control) value chains across multiple stages: farm, sorting/grading, transportation, and retailing.


Key Responsibilities

  • Data Management: Support the design of data collection tools and manage baseline and bi-weekly datasets (cleaning, validation, and storage).

  • Statistical Analysis: Conduct rigorous comparisons between treatment and control value chains.

  • Indicator Analysis: Analyze metrics such as product quality, postharvest losses, costs, revenues, and consumer demand.

  • Lab Integration: Integrate laboratory microbial results (e.g., E. coli and Salmonella) with survey data.

  • Reporting: Prepare data visualizations, technical reports, and presentations for stakeholders.

  • Project Support: Assist with Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) activities.


Candidate Requirements

  • Education: Master’s degree in Statistics or Data Science.

  • Background: Educational foundation in Economics, Agricultural Economics, or Social Sciences.

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Stata, SPSS, or Python.

  • Experience: Previous experience with survey data collection and analysis; experience with quasi-experimental designs is a significant advantage.

  • Subject Knowledge: Understanding of microbial contaminants (E. coli and Salmonella).

  • Communication: Strong technical writing skills for scientific articles and reports.

  • Residency: Must reside in Tanzania during the fellowship period and be willing to travel to the Kilimanjaro region.
