Job Vacancy: Packaging Manager

Company: Serengeti Breweries Limited (SBL) – A Diageo Subsidiary

Location: Tanzania (Multiple Locations)

Industry: Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) / Beverage

I. Role Purpose

To plan, organize, and direct all packaging and maintenance activities to deliver target volumes in line with sales forecasts. The goal is to ensure cost-effective production of all SBL brands for local and export markets, maintaining SBL’s position as a market leader in premium beverages in Africa.

II. Key Responsibilities

1. Operational Excellence & Standards

Best Practices: Oversight of all Tier 2 Best Practices and Diageo Asset Care (AC) systems to improve reliability.
Contract Management: Act as the Packaging Contract Owner for cleaning and contract labor.
Compliance: Lead execution of internal and regulatory standards, specifically owning CARM Controls for material receipts and despatches.
Safety & Quality: Implement Food Safety, Quality, and Environment systems (FSSC 22000, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001) and Diageo risk standards (GRMS, DWB, DWMS).

2. Problem Solving & Performance

RCPS Leadership: Drive Root Cause Problem Solving (RCPS) using tools like 5 Whys and DMAIC to ensure “100-year fixes” for recurring issues.
Coaching: Empower direct reports to identify under-performance and adopt a “breakthrough mindset.”
Escalation: Respond immediately to escalated issues and launch multi-disciplinary teams to address systemic bottlenecks.

3. Change Management & Continuous Improvement

MMS Projects: Support and coach leaders on Manufacturing Management System (MMS) projects.
Stakeholder Management: Manage internal and external relationships to achieve world-class performance outcomes.
Strategic Planning: Drive medium-term tactical plans for Delivery, Safety, Quality, Cost, and Controls.

4. People & Talent Development

Resource Planning: Ensure 100% role coverage across packaging lines, managing the full lifecycle from hiring to exit.
Performance Management: Deliver P4G (Performance for Growth) conversations and personal development plans.
Continuous Learning: Leverage the Diageo Academy to grow self and team impact.

III. Qualifications & Experience

Category	Requirements
Education	Bachelor’s degree in Science or Engineering.
Certifications	Master Brewer or IBD Certification (Highly Advantageous).
Experience	5+ years in the brewing/packaging industry (FMCG).
Technical Knowledge	Deep understanding of production, quality, and maintenance technologies.
Systems	Experience with FSSC, ISO, and Occupational Health & Safety systems.
Analytical Skills	Excellent data management and analysis skills are mandatory.
