Position Overview

As the Learning & Development Lead, you will design, execute, and measure a world-class learning strategy that drives high performance across all levels of Jaza—from global leadership to frontline Jaza Stars in rural communities.

This role blends strategic global L&D leadership with hands-on innovation. You will lead the creation of the Jaza Star Academy, working closely with software, operations, and business teams to deliver scalable, low-bandwidth, high-impact learning programs tailored to frontier markets across Africa.


Key Roles & Responsibilities

1. Group Learning Strategy & Leadership Development

  • Design and execute a comprehensive group-wide L&D strategy aligned with Jaza’s mission and rapid expansion goals.
  • Conduct annual skills gap analyses across corporate, country, and regional teams.
  • Lead the design and delivery of leadership and management development programs that reinforce Jaza’s culture and leadership values.
  • Own and manage the global L&D budget, vendor relationships, and learning technologies.
  • Partner with the Talent Lead and Hiring Managers to align learning programs with performance management and talent acquisition strategies.

2. Jaza Star Academy Innovation & Curriculum Design

  • Work closely with software and business teams to conceive, build, and scale the Jaza Star Academy.
  • Lead curriculum design for technical, business, and entrepreneurship skills tailored for rural and frontier market contexts.
  • Develop programs that empower Jaza Stars to become community leaders and entrepreneurs.
  • Oversee learning content creation, delivery methods (digital, offline, in-person, job aids), and learning outcomes.

3. Program Implementation, Technical Training & Measurement

  • Deliver high-quality technical onboarding and role-based training across operations, commercial, technical, and expansion teams.
  • Design and manage certification programs to validate role-critical competencies prior to field deployment.
  • Manage external training partners, content providers, and service agreements.
  • Implement robust learning impact measurement frameworks (ROI, behavior change, performance outcomes).
  • Maintain accurate reporting on training participation, completion rates, and impact metrics.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 10+ years in Learning & Development or Talent Management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role managing global strategy, budgets, and cross-functional teams.
  • 4–5 years’ proven experience designing and deploying training in rural Sub-Saharan Africa or similar frontier markets.
  • Strong experience in curriculum design and leadership/management development programs that drive business outcomes and culture.
  • Experience working with software engineers to build EdTech solutions (LMS, mobile learning, offline tools).
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate with global content providers and manage learning budgets.
  • Proven experience conducting skills gap analyses and partnering with business leaders on workforce upskilling.
  • Bachelor’s degree in International Development, Adult Education, Organizational Development, Instructional Design, or a related field.
  • Master’s degree or professional certification is an added advantage.
