Job Title: Relationship Manager – Business

Job Grade: B/C2
Reports to: Business Growth & Development Manager


Basic Purpose

Provide a supervisory role to staff members working under the branch business development unit. The Relationship Manager – Business Development is responsible for coordinating unit activities by leading the team on sales and business development initiatives that ensure growth of the customer base, CASA and term deposits, high-quality loan portfolio (NPL), improvement of loan portfolio performance (PAR 30% and PAR 90%), growth of Non-Funded Income (NFIs), cross-selling of bank products, and maintaining strong client relationships in line with KPIs.


Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identify and negotiate business opportunities to grow branch business in line with annual targets and Bank strategy.
  • Develop and implement an annual business plan and sales strategy aligned with branch and Bank objectives.
  • Ensure growth of CASA deposits, contributing at least 70% of total branch deposits.
  • Ensure growth of a quality loan portfolio across customer segments and business sectors, generating profit in line with targets.
  • Ensure growth of the customer base and active account utilization.
  • Recruit Equity Agents and Super Agents in line with branch targets and transaction growth.
  • Recruit merchants and monitor POS performance to achieve unit targets.
  • Ensure customers are onboarded onto ABC platforms to increase transactions, reduce branch traffic, and grow NFIs.
  • Drive growth of NFIs through cross-selling trade finance, transactional banking, insurance, and other income-generating products.
  • Cross-sell bank products and increase product usage to at least eight (8) products per customer.
  • Reduce dormant accounts to a maximum of 15% of total branch customers.
  • Manage and enhance existing business relationships to ensure customer retention.
  • Review own and team loan portfolios and recommend corrective actions to meet performance indicators.
  • Liaise with stakeholders including clients, government institutions, and financial institutions to safeguard the Bank’s interests.
  • Supervise, guide, and mentor Relationship Officers to ensure quality onboarding and adherence to Bank policies, KYC, and AML requirements.
  • Conduct client engagement activities to build confidence, loyalty, and retention.
  • Provide timely reports, recommendations, and feedback to management on business performance.
  • Coordinate with the Commercial Department and Head Office stakeholders.
  • Advise the Business Growth & Development Manager on branch growth and people management matters.
  • Participate in branch budgeting and annual planning.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Business Growth & Development Manager.
  • Collect and prepare market intelligence on corporate and retail products to support business growth.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

Skills

  • Strong understanding of the Bank’s product offerings including syndication, co-financing, club deals, correspondent banking, letters of credit, factoring, forfaiting, structured trade finance, carbon financing, corporate finance risk participation, and project finance.
  • Knowledge of structured trade finance models and credit risk mitigation.
  • Ability to work in culturally diverse and change-oriented environments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Knowledge of additional Bank working languages is an advantage.
  • Proven experience in marketing trade and project finance products.
  • Willingness to travel extensively and work extended hours when required.

Work Experience

  • Minimum of three (3) years’ banking experience with exposure to trade finance, project finance, export development, and asset financing.
  • Proven track record in portfolio management, business development, and client acquisition.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field.
  • Professional certifications (e.g., Certified Financial Planner, Credit Analyst) are an added advantage.
  • Formal credit training is highly valued.

Regulatory Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of banking regulations, compliance standards, and risk management.
  • Familiarity with KYC, AML, and credit policies.
