GENERAL

Job Title: Retail Liabilities Manager
Department: Commercial
Job Grade: C1 / C2
Reports to: Head of Liability & Ecosystem Banking


JOB PURPOSE

The Retail Liabilities Manager is responsible for leading and driving the growth of retail and micro deposits by mobilizing low-cost, stable liabilities through branch networks, digital channels, and community-based initiatives. The role focuses on CASA growth, transaction volumes, financial inclusion, and sustainable profitability, while ensuring compliance with regulatory and consumer protection standards.


MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Retail & Micro Deposit Growth

  • Drive growth of savings, current, fixed, and micro-savings accounts across retail and micro segments.
  • Achieve CASA growth and cost of funds targets.
  • Mobilize deposits through branches, agents, mobile banking, and digital wallets.
  • Design and execute deposit mobilization campaigns aligned with market needs.

2. Product Strategy & Channel Management

  • Develop and manage retail and micro deposit products tailored to different customer segments.
  • Optimize distribution through:
    • Branch network
    • Agency banking
    • Mobile and internet banking
    • Partnerships (SACCOs, merchants)
  • Drive transaction growth via payments, bill collections, and digital channels.

3. Sales Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, coach, and motivate branch sales teams, relationship officers, and agents.
  • Set sales targets and monitor branch-level performance.
  • Build a strong liability sales culture across the network.
  • Support recruitment, training, and performance management initiatives.

4. Financial Inclusion & Community Engagement

  • Drive micro and mass-market customer acquisition through community outreach, market activations, value chain initiatives, and group onboarding.
  • Promote a savings culture among low-income and informal sector customers.
  • Build partnerships with NGOs, cooperatives, employers, and fintechs.

5. Risk, Compliance & Consumer Protection

  • Ensure adherence to KYC, AML, consumer protection, and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor account conduct, dormant accounts, and suspicious transactions.
  • Ensure transparency in pricing, terms, and customer communications.
  • Support internal audits and regulatory inspections.

6. Performance Management & Analytics

  • Track and analyze:
    • Deposit growth by product and channel
    • Account activity and attrition
    • Transaction volumes and fee income
  • Use data insights to optimize campaigns and enhance customer engagement.
  • Maintain accurate reporting dashboards.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field (MBA is an added advantage).
  • Minimum of 5+ years’ experience in Retail Banking, Microfinance, or Consumer Banking.
  • Strong experience in deposit mobilization, branch sales, or microfinance operations.
  • Proven people management and sales leadership experience.
