Location: Bulyanhulu Gold Mine, Tanzania

We are seeking a Community Relations Officer to join our Social and Environment Department under the Exploration Team. This role ensures that all departmental activities are effectively planned, safely executed, and cost-efficient while adhering to BGML Mining Safety Standards, Policies, and Procedures.

Key Responsibilities

Safety and Compliance

  • Ensure a healthy and safe working environment for all employees.
  • Promote safe work practices, including attending safety courses and meetings, using required PPE, reporting incidents/accidents, and complying with all occupational health, safety, and environmental policies.

Community Development & Engagement

  • Implement quick-fix projects promptly according to BGML principles of engagement.
  • Collaborate closely with the Exploration Department in all planned activities.
  • Work with the Grievance Officer to resolve exploration-related community concerns.
  • Establish partnerships with research institutions, government agencies, NGOs, and other stakeholders to implement community strategies.
  • Develop medium-term (2–5 years) community development plans in collaboration with the community.
  • Coordinate site initiatives to ensure an integrated approach aligned with BGML engagement principles.
  • Assess community investment requests against BGML principles and long-term development objectives.
  • Collect and analyze economic development data to assess BGML’s impact.
  • Lead the development of BGML’s long-term Community Development Vision.

Capacity Building

  • Identify and maintain contact with local institutions, NGOs, companies, and civil society organizations.
  • Contribute to capacity-building programs for alternative livelihoods and business development.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, Economics, Community Development, International Relations, Regional Planning, Negotiation & Conflict Resolution, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in social work or community development programs.

Skills and Experience

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills (Fluent in Kiswahili and English).
  • Effective negotiation and problem-solving skills.
  • Empathetic towards sensitive personal and community issues.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Document management and systems design/implementation experience.
  • Ability to work with people at all levels.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety.
  • Experience in the mining environment and a valid driving license are considered assets.
  • Professional-level fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Excellent cross-cultural communication skills.
