Senior VoIP Engineer

Role Overview

The Senior VoIP Engineer will lead the design, deployment, and support of enterprise voice and unified communications (UC) solutions across multiple customer environments. This role requires deep expertise in SIP-based telephony, strong networking fundamentals, and advanced hands-on experience with Asterisk-based PBX platforms, including customization, integration, and complex troubleshooting.


Key Responsibilities

1. Solution Design & Pre-Sales Support

  • Design VoIP and UC solutions aligned with customer requirements and SLAs
  • Prepare technical proposals, High-Level Designs (HLDs), Low-Level Designs (LLDs), and Bills of Quantities (BoQs)
  • Support pre-sales teams through solution sizing, demos, and architecture validation

2. Implementation & Integration

  • Deploy and configure IP-PBX platforms, SIP trunks, gateways, SBCs, and IP phones
  • Install, customize, and maintain Asterisk PBX systems, including:
    • Dial plans
    • IVRs
    • Queues
    • AGI scripts
    • Third-party integrations
  • Integrate VoIP platforms with CRM systems, call recording, billing, and contact-center solutions
  • Lead migrations from legacy PBX systems to IP-based telephony

3. Support & Troubleshooting

  • Provide Level 3 (L3) support for customer voice environments
  • Troubleshoot SIP signaling, codec negotiation, NAT traversal, and media path issues
  • Analyze packet captures, logs, and CDRs to resolve complex call problems
  • Optimize QoS, latency, jitter, and bandwidth utilization across networks

4. Customer & Vendor Coordination

  • Act as a technical interface with telecom operators, SIP providers, and equipment vendors
  • Provide technical guidance to customers and internal engineering teams
  • Deliver handover documentation and conduct customer training sessions

5. Continuous Improvement & Leadership

  • Develop reusable deployment templates and automation scripts
  • Recommend emerging UC technologies, cloud telephony, and hybrid solutions
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to internal knowledge bases and best practices

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in IT, Telecommunications, or a related field
  • 5+ years of VoIP engineering experience in a service provider, system integrator, or enterprise environment
  • Strong hands-on expertise in Asterisk PBX administration and customization
  • In-depth knowledge of SIP, RTP, codecs, NAT traversal, and call routing
  • Solid networking skills, including VLANs, routing, QoS, firewalls, and VPNs
  • Experience with Linux server administration

Preferred Experience

  • Contact center deployments and call recording systems
  • SIP trunk integration with multiple carriers
  • SBC configuration and VoIP security hardening
  • Cloud VoIP platforms and hybrid telephony architectures
  • Scripting and automation using Bash, Python, or similar languages

Preferred Certifications

  • VoIP or UC vendor certifications
  • Linux administration certifications
  • Networking certifications (e.g., CCNA or equivalent)
  • Asterisk or open-source telephony training (strong advantage)

  • Ability to manage multiple client projects simultaneously
