Job Opportunity: Technology Technician

Northern Engineering Works Ltd (NEWL) is seeking a Technology Technician to join their Operations Team. The successful candidate will mentor field teams, ensuring adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all site equipment and technologies, including Remote Monitoring Systems (RMS).


Role Overview

  • Job Title: Technology Technician

  • Reporting Line Manager: Technology Manager

  • Location: Arusha, Tanzania

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • RMS Management: Ensure RMS systems run efficiently for 100% visibility; track faults with clear Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and maintain failure histories to implement one-time fix solutions.

  • Field Support & Training: Act as a trainer for field teams by sharing monthly training plans and ensuring teams have the necessary tools and skills for preventive and corrective maintenance.

  • Operational Performance: Track overconsuming sites and manage solar hybrid performance to extend system lifetime.

  • Reporting & Meetings: Participate in fuel reconciliation meetings and attend daily cluster meetings.

  • Efficiency: Ensure OPEX saving performance from implemented initiatives and advice through regular reports.

SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment & Quality)

  • Compliance with all projects and reporting of at least five near misses and five hazards each month.

  • Ensure no planned work is undertaken without a Field Level Risk Assessment (FLRA).

  • Report any incident or property damage within 24 hours.

  • Adhere to PPE requirements, waste disposal protocols, and daily vehicle inspections.

  • Attend mandatory OSHA examinations and cooperate with incident investigations.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.

  • Experience: At least 2 years in a related position.

  • Professional Registration: Must be EWURA Registered.

  • Technical Skills: Conversant with different RMS and familiar with proper installation procedures for power infrastructure at BTS sites.

  • IT Literacy: Strong skills in Excel, MS Word, PowerPoint, Visio, and Project Management reporting tools.

  • Other Requirements: Valid Driver’s license and the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
