Position Description: Auto Electrician

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure safe work practices by attending compulsory safety courses and meetings, using required PPE, reporting incidents/accidents, and adhering to all Safety, Occupational Health, Environmental, and company policies.
  • Perform task risk assessments, including JHA and FLRA.
  • Maintain, repair, diagnose, fault-find, and conduct routine inspections on mining equipment (e.g. SANDVIK, CAT, NORMET).
  • Coordinate unit activities and report to the supervisor.
  • Ensure mobile equipment is maintained safely and cost-effectively.
  • Participate in developing training programs for the national workforce and conduct competency assessments.
  • Demonstrate leadership in safety by acting immediately on unsafe acts or conditions and monitoring safety standards.
  • Fully comply with OEM repair procedures, safety requirements, and training protocols.
  • Complete all required training modules within the auto electrical and maintenance skills matrix program.
  • Monitor auto electrical activities, eliminate wasteful practices, and ensure maintenance targets are met.
  • Support departmental tactical plans to achieve overall business objectives.
  • Manage equipment component change-outs and rebuilds as required.
  • Investigate and implement new technologies to improve auto electrical performance.
  • Perform additional tasks as instructed by the line supervisor.
  • Carry out basic mechanical fitting, rubber lining, scaffolding, and rigging tasks as directed.
  • Clean equipment and work areas using appropriate tools and solvents to maintain a tidy and safe environment.
  • Clean, maintain, repair, and rebuild mechanical components as directed by the supervisor.
  • Conduct regular inspections of plant and steel structures.
  • Complete breakdown and preventive maintenance work orders on time, including notifications and feedback.
  • Remove defective parts using appropriate tools, hoists, and cranes.
  • Manage equipment, parts, and supply inventories and coordinate requirements with the supervisor.
  • Maintain continuity between shifts through proper documentation and communication.
  • Conduct effective shift handovers within the area of responsibility.

Qualification Requirements

  • Secondary education.
  • Technical/Vocational training, apprenticeship, or on-the-job training (FTC, VETA, IMTT Trade Test, or equivalent).
  • Sound knowledge of mining safety regulations and best practices.
  • Certification in air-conditioning systems repair.

Experience and Competencies

  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a mine auto electrical maintenance role.
  • Experience in the mining industry is essential.
  • Strong knowledge of auto electrical maintenance planning and scheduling.
  • Familiarity with equipment safety standards.
  • Proven experience in maintenance practices and techniques.
  • Air-conditioning system troubleshooting and repair experience is required.
  • Strong physical stamina and strength.
  • Good time management and planning skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.
  • Clear and effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to safely operate a wide range of tools and equipment.
  • Ability to perform safety inspections and identify hazards.
  • Good vision, including the ability to distinguish colors and symbols.

About the Team

The North Mara Gold Mine is located in north-west Tanzania, in the Tarime District of the Mara Region, approximately 100 km east of Lake Victoria and 20 km south of the Kenyan border.

North Mara commenced commercial production in 2002 and operates both open pit and underground mines across two deposits:

  • Gokona (underground)
  • Nyabirama (open pit)

The processing plant has the capacity to process approximately 8,000 tonnes of ore per day.
