Key Purpose of the Role

The primary purpose of this role is to lead and manage brewing operations to ensure:

  • Consistent beer quality and taste
  • Reliable production performance
  • Optimal plant efficiency and availability

The role focuses on implementing brewing strategies, driving continuous improvement through VPO practices, maintaining technical and quality standards, and developing high-performing brewing teams while ensuring strong safety, operational, and financial performance within the brewery.


Key Roles and Responsibilities

1. Operational Output and Accountability

  • Ensure consistent production output and operational accountability.
  • Maintain reliable production processes and ensure production targets are met.
  • Monitor plant performance and operational efficiency.

2. Occupational Health, Safety and Risk Management

  • Ensure strict adherence to occupational health and safety standards.
  • Identify, manage, and mitigate operational risks.
  • Ensure compliance with NOSA safety standards and requirements.

3. Quality and Brewing Standards

  • Ensure brewery quality and taste targets are consistently achieved.
  • Maintain compliance with brand and brewing process standards.
  • Conduct brewing technical and brand audits according to QA audit schedules.
  • Identify deviations and manage them through the non-conformance management process.
  • Lead tasting processes to ensure product quality.

4. Brewing Strategy and Implementation

  • Translate and implement brewing strategies aligned with manufacturing and business strategies.
  • Ensure disciplined execution of standard work practices at the regional brewery level.
  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives using VPO tools, routines, and practices.
  • Ensure adherence to Brewing and IBMS technical and business audit schedules.

5. Process Optimization and Asset Management

  • Optimize brewing processes, plant performance, and asset utilization.
  • Ensure high levels of plant availability and reliability.
  • Analyze plant performance data to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Investigate plant failures and eliminate root causes of recurring issues.

6. Brewing Optimization and Continuous Improvement

  • Continuously improve brewing quality and production processes.
  • Integrate improvement initiatives into brewing team goals.
  • Ensure improvement progress is reviewed regularly during team goal sessions.

7. People Management and Leadership

  • Lead the brewing team to promote ownership, empowerment, and collaboration.
  • Facilitate team problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Manage staff in alignment with AB InBev leadership practices.
  • Develop and communicate clear team goals.
  • Conduct:
    • Regular goal review sessions
    • One-on-one meetings
    • Performance reviews
  • Conduct training needs analyses and develop training plans.
  • Ensure team competency development and encourage cross-skilling within the engineering team.
  • Provide coaching and mentorship to brewing staff (Levels 1, 2, and 3).
  • Supervise technical trainees, guide development, and participate in trainee assessments.

8. Financial and Performance Management

  • Manage the financial performance of brewing operations.
  • Prepare and control operational budgets.
  • Monitor monthly financial Short Interval Control (SIC) processes.

Minimum Requirements

  • BSc Degree in:
    • Biological Sciences
    • Chemistry
    • Chemical Engineering
  • IBD Brewing Diploma (minimum qualification)
  • Completion of SAB Ltd Brewing Traineeship or AB InBev certified equivalent
  • 8–10 years of production experience, including:
    • At least 5 years in a brewing management role
  • Proven ability to drive commercial decisions in a brewery environment (financial, operational, and people management)
  • Strong working knowledge of:
    • VPO (Voyager Plant Optimization)
    • SAP modules
    • NOSA Safety Standards
