Job Purpose

To maintain accurate accounting records for the Collective Investment Scheme (CIS), support Net Asset Value (NAV) calculations, prepare financial statements in compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), perform reconciliations, and support audit, tax, and regulatory reporting requirements Top of Form, Bottom of Form.

 

Principle Responsibilities

  • Maintain the fund’s general ledger and subsidiary ledgers in accordance with approved accounting policies.
  • Record all investment transactions, including purchases, sales, maturities, corporate actions, and income accruals.
  • Prepare daily, monthly, and annual financial statements in compliance with IFRS and scheme constitutive documents.
  • Calculate and record management fees, custodian fees, trustee fees, audit fees, and other fund operating expenses.
  • Prepare accruals for dividends, interest income, withholding taxes, and other receivables or payables.
  • Ensure correct accounting treatment for unrealized gains and losses in line with IFRS valuation principles.
  • Perform daily reconciliations between fund administration system records, custodian statements, and the general ledger.
  • Reconcile cash balances, investment holdings, income received, and expenses.
  • Investigate and resolve reconciliation discrepancies promptly and document resolutions.
  • Reconcile total units outstanding per the unit-holder registry with fund accounting records.
  • Maintain complete reconciliation records and audit trails.
  • Prepare audit working papers, schedules, confirmations, and supporting documentation.
  • Respond to auditor queries and provide timely explanations and evidence.
  • Support interim and year-end statutory audits in line with audit timetables.
  • Assist in implementing audit recommendations and management letter action points.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitor changes in tax legislation affecting investment funds and advise on implications.
  • Coordinate with external tax advisors on complex or non-routine tax matters.
  • Monitor fund operating expenses against approved budgets and Total Expense Ratio (TER) limits.
  • Process and verify invoices from service providers prior to payment.
  • Calculate and disclose the Total Expense Ratio (TER) for regulatory and investor reporting.
  • Ensure expense allocations are accurate, fair, transparent, and consistent with scheme rules.

REGULATORY AND BUSINESS CONDUCT:

  • Ensure adherence to all internal and external regulations.
  • Good relationship with regulators with ability to contribute & where possible influence policy formulation.

Qualifications Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Economics, or a related field (MBA preferred).
  • Minimum 3 years’ accounting experience, preferably in financial services, fund accounting, or custody operations.
  • Completion of the Securities Industry Certification Course (SICC) by CMSA.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Tanzanian capital market, including the fund management and other trading regulations.
  • Strong understanding of various asset classes traded on the DSE (equities, bonds, derivatives).
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency in financial modelling and fund management systems.
  • Familiarity with Tanzanian capital market regulations (CMSA) is a strong asset.
  • Must be a Tanzanian citizen or possess a valid work permit for Tanzania.
