Head of Payments – Corporate & Investment Banking (CIB)

Job Overview

The Head of Payments for the Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB) division will serve as the strategic leader responsible for designing and executing the bank’s payments strategy in Tanzania.

This high-visibility leadership role focuses on transforming the Tanzanian financial landscape by addressing real-world challenges faced by local corporates, large regional businesses, and global organizations.

The role holds end-to-end accountability for the full lifecycle of:

  • Domestic Payments
  • Cross-Border Payments
  • Physical Cash Solutions
  • Liquidity Management

Through product innovation and high-performance sales strategies, the position will aim to:

  • Increase market share
  • Enhance client value propositions
  • Optimize the bank’s balance sheet

Qualifications

Education

  • First Degree in:
    • Finance
    • Economics
    • Engineering
    • or a related field

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA
  • Professional certification such as CertICM (Certificate in International Cash Management) or equivalent.

Experience Requirements

Candidates should have:

  • 10+ years of experience in Transactional Banking or Payments.
  • Minimum 5 years in a senior leadership role within a top-tier bank.
  • 5–7 years of experience in a multinational banking environment.
  • Strong expertise in:
    • East African payment systems (payment rails)
    • Liquidity management structures
    • Tanzanian financial regulations
  • Experience in roles combining:
    • Product management
    • Business development
    • Banking product strategy
  • Knowledge of regional and global financial market trends, particularly within Africa.
