Position Overview

World Vision International is strengthening its global Staff Care & Well-being approach to ensure that staff are supported not only through formal services but also through effective systems, leadership practices, and accessible resources that promote mental well-being at work.

The organization is seeking a Technical Specialist – Mental Well-being who will help embed mental health and psychosocial well-being into organizational systems, policies, and everyday practices across the partnership.

This position focuses on:

  • Reducing stigma related to mental health
  • Strengthening leadership capacity
  • Ensuring mental well-being is treated as a shared organizational responsibility

⚠️ Note: This is not a clinical or counseling role. Instead, it focuses on systems thinking, organizational culture, and policy integration.

Key Responsibilities

1. Embedding Mental Well-being into Systems and Practice

  • Develop and adapt guidance, tools, and frameworks that integrate mental well-being into organizational policies and leadership practices.
  • Support the integration of mental well-being into staff care and organizational resilience systems.
  • Align mental well-being initiatives with the Staff Care & Well-being Strategy and Theory of Change.

2. Strengthening Leadership Capability and Reducing Stigma

  • Design learning initiatives that build managers’ confidence in supporting staff well-being.
  • Develop resources that encourage healthy conversations about mental health and reduce stigma.
  • Work with leaders to build psychologically safe and supportive workplace cultures.

3. Supporting Contextualization and Field Ownership

  • Partner with country and regional offices to adapt global guidance to local contexts.
  • Encourage locally owned approaches to mental well-being integration.
  • Capture insights from field offices to support continuous improvement and innovation.

4. Contributing to Learning and Collaboration

  • Support monitoring and reflection aligned with the Staff Care Theory of Change.
  • Document lessons learned and best practices for knowledge sharing.
  • Collaborate with teams working on:
    • Staff care
    • Well-being capacity building
    • Relational well-being
    • Work design
  • Participate in a community of practice on staff well-being and MHPSS (Mental Health and Psychosocial Support).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Experience

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in:
    • Mental health
    • Psychosocial support (MHPSS)
    • Organizational well-being roles
  • Demonstrated experience integrating mental health into organizational systems and policies.
  • Experience developing workplace mental health training or awareness initiatives.
  • Advanced education in:
    • Psychology
    • Organizational Psychology
    • Public Health
    • Or related field.
  • Additional training in:
    • Compassion fatigue
    • Vicarious trauma
    • Trauma-informed workplace practices (advantage).
  • Professional certification in:
    • Counselling
    • Coaching
    • Mental Health First Aid (desirable).
  • Proven experience working in international NGOs or complex global organizations.
  • Fluency in English (additional languages are an advantage).
  • Experience working in national or regional offices within complex systems.

Candidates should demonstrate understanding that mental well-being at work is shaped by leadership behavior, organizational culture, workload, and psychological safety.


Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Strong understanding of humanitarian contexts and staff care challenges.
  • Knowledge of frameworks such as:
    • ISO 45003
    • WHO Guidelines for Mental Health at Work.
  • Experience developing culturally sensitive tools and approaches.
  • Experience with stigma reduction initiatives or sector-wide learning projects.
  • Multilingual capability strongly preferred.
  • Strong advisory and influencing skills across large international organizations.
  • Ability to work effectively across different cultures, teams, and leadership levels.

Travel and Work Environment
