Job Summary

The Livestock Financing Officer will be responsible for growing the livestock financing portfolio through new client acquisition, credit assessment, and development of livestock financing solutions. The role involves assessing loan applications from branches, supporting livestock sector development, and ensuring high-quality loan bookings with minimal credit risk.


Key Responsibilities

1. Customer Acquisition & Credit Assessment

  • Identify and onboard livestock farmers, cooperatives, and agribusiness enterprises.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and sector stakeholders.
  • Provide advisory support to clients on appropriate financing options.
  • Maintain an up-to-date understanding of:
    • Tanzania’s livestock sector
    • Livestock farmers’ financing needs
    • Livestock value chain financing opportunities
  • Assess loan applications from livestock farmers and agribusinesses.
  • Evaluate business viability, repayment capacity, and sector-specific risks.

2. Loan Structuring & Disbursement

  • Design financing solutions tailored to livestock production cycles, including:
    • Dairy
    • Poultry
    • Beef
    • Piggery
  • Recommend suitable financing products such as:
    • Working capital loans
    • Asset financing
    • Insurance-backed credit facilities
  • Ensure timely loan disbursement in line with approved terms and conditions.

3. Monitoring & Portfolio Management

  • Conduct regular monitoring of financed farms and projects.
  • Track performance and repayment capacity of borrowers.
  • Identify early warning signs of financial distress and recommend corrective actions.
  • Maintain a healthy loan portfolio with minimal arrears.

4. Risk Management & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with bank credit policies, sector regulations, and animal health standards.
  • Promote the use of livestock insurance and risk-sharing mechanisms to protect both clients and the bank.

5. Capacity Building & Advisory

  • Educate farmers on:
    • Financial literacy
    • Record keeping
    • Best livestock management practices
  • Facilitate technical linkages with:
    • Veterinary service providers
    • Agricultural input suppliers
    • Livestock markets

6. Reporting & Documentation

  • Prepare periodic reports on livestock loan portfolio performance.
  • Document lessons learned, emerging opportunities, and sector challenges.

7. Meetings and Reporting

  • Attend and participate in key meetings including:
    • Credit Risk Committee meetings
    • Business meetings
    • Loan delinquency and collections meetings
  • Prepare and submit reports required by management.

Education and Experience

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in:
    • Veterinary Medicine (BVM)
    • Animal Science
    • Or related fields
  • Strong knowledge of livestock production systems, including:
    • Dairy
    • Poultry
    • Beef
    • Goat
    • Piggery
    • Livestock value chains

Experience

  • 3–5 years of work experience in:
    • Agribusiness financing
    • Agricultural lending (especially livestock financing)
  • Experience in:
    • Credit appraisal
    • Risk analysis
    • Loan portfolio management
  • Familiarity with:
    • Livestock insurance products
    • Value chain financing models
    • Rural banking practices
  • Field experience conducting:
    • Farm visits
    • Livestock project evaluations
    • Client capacity assessments
