Position: Shift Quality Control (QC) Officer
Job Summary
The Shift Quality Control (QC) Officer is responsible for conducting laboratory analysis of shift samples such as Raw Meal, Kiln Feed, Coal, Clinker, Cement, and other raw materials in accordance with the Plant Effective Quality Control Plan.
Analyses are primarily conducted using XRF in the Robot Lab. In the event of equipment failure, analysis will be conducted using Bench Top XRF, and if necessary, through wet chemistry methods (conventional analysis).
The QC Officer is also responsible for providing timely feedback of analytical results to the production department and coordinating with them to ensure that all plant products at different production stages meet specified quality standards.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
1. Quality Testing and Chemical Analysis
- Conduct analysis of Raw Meal chemistry to determine LSF, MA, MS, LOI, and residue according to the Quality Control Plan.
- Analyze Kiln Feed samples for LSF, MA, MS, LOI, and residue and communicate results to operators.
- Conduct tests for Hot Meal (SO₃, Cl, K₂O, Na₂O, LOI) to calculate Degree of Calcination.
- Perform Clinker analysis including:
- Free Lime
- C3S, C2S, C3A
- Liquid Phase
- LSF, MA, MS
- S/A Ratio
- Litre Weight
- Carry out Cement quality tests including:
- SO₃
- Blaine
- LOI
- Sieve analysis
2. Raw Material and Fuel Analysis
- Determine moisture content, ash content, and sieve analysis of fine coal samples.
- Inspect received AGO (Automotive Gas Oil) shipments and conduct quality checks including water content and density.
- Record inspection results in Goods Received Notes (GRN) and update records in laboratory systems.
3. Laboratory Operations
- Conduct various laboratory tests including:
- Titration analysis
- Calorimetric analysis
- X-ray analysis
- Volumetric (wet) chemical analysis
- Perform water analysis for the RO plant when required.
- Prepare standard solutions required for chemical testing.
4. Equipment Monitoring and Maintenance
- Conduct routine inspection and control of laboratory instruments.
- Assist the Lab Supervisor/QC Manager in calibrating and maintaining:
- XRF analyzers
- Other laboratory equipment
- Maintain LERI records for laboratory equipment and submit weekly reports.
5. Quality Monitoring and Reporting
- Prepare daily laboratory analysis reports.
- Maintain records of chemical usage and consumables inventory.
- Conduct reference tests to assess equipment reliability and performance.
- Monitor temperature and humidity levels in the Robot Lab environment.
- Communicate any quality issues immediately to the relevant departments.
Academic / Professional Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Chemistry
OR - Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical and Process Engineering
Work Experience
- Minimum 3 years of working experience in the cement industry.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
- Ability to operate laboratory equipment and instruments.
- Experience conducting chemical analyses of raw materials, in-process materials, and final products.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication and reporting abilities.
