Position Overview

To strengthen its corporate governance framework and strategic oversight, the Bank invites applications from qualified, experienced, and reputable individuals to serve as Independent Non-Executive Directors.

The Bank seeks to appoint two (2) Independent Non-Executive Board Members with strong expertise and practical experience in banking and financial services to support the Bank’s growth and strategic objectives.

The names of qualifying candidates will be forwarded to the Annual General Meeting (AGM) for appointment.


Roles and Responsibilities of the Board

Successful candidates will contribute to the Board’s strategic leadership and oversight responsibilities, including:

  1. Determining the Bank’s vision, mission, and values, while continuously monitoring and evaluating strategy to ensure sustainable growth.
  2. Selecting, appointing, supporting, assessing, and monitoring Senior Management in executing policy, strategy, and operations.
  3. Appointing the Managing Director, evaluating performance regularly, and providing strategic guidance.
  4. Establishing sound financial management practices, approving the annual budget, and monitoring implementation.
  5. Considering and protecting the interests of shareholders and key stakeholders.
  6. Remaining well-informed on Bank matters and actively participating in Board meetings, evaluations, and planning activities.
  7. Ensuring leadership practices that protect the Bank’s assets and reputation.
  8. Ensuring compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and corporate governance standards.
  9. Ensuring the Bank’s technology and systems are adequate for efficient operations and competitiveness.
  10. Overseeing risk management processes and ensuring the Bank appropriately manages risks to enhance long-term shareholder value.

Professional Qualifications

Applicants should possess expertise in areas such as:

  • Banking
  • Finance
  • Accounting
  • Economics
  • Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
  • Risk Management
  • Human Resources or related fields

Additional requirements include:

  1. Demonstrated current knowledge of the banking sector.
  2. Compliance with fit-and-proper independence oversight criteria as prescribed by the Bank of Tanzania Corporate Governance Regulations (2021 & 2023).
  3. Minimum ten (10) years of work experience at director or senior management level, preferably within financial services.
  4. At least five (5) years of experience in the banking industry.
  5. Postgraduate qualifications in a business-related field will be an added advantage.
  6. Professional accounting certifications such as CPA(T) or ACCA will be an added advantage.
  7. Previous Board experience with a listed company will be an added advantage.
  8. Proven leadership and governance experience in public or private sector institutions.
  9. Expertise in areas such as:
    • Digital transformation
    • Data science
    • Cybersecurity
    • Trade and project finance
    • Human capital management
  10. Strong integrity, ethical judgment, and independence of mind.
  11. Strategic, analytical, and communication skills with strong stakeholder awareness.
  12. Good understanding of financial management, regulatory compliance, and corporate governance.
  13. Strong commercial and investment acumen.
  14. Well-networked individual capable of building relationships beneficial to the Bank.
