Maternity Africa is a Christian-based not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing fistula treatment and quality maternity care for marginalized women across Tanzania. We deliver clinical excellence while demonstrating love, kindness, and compassion regardless of race, religion, or ethnicity.

Our operations are based at Kivulini Maternity Centre, just outside Arusha in Northern Tanzania.


Role Overview

The Nurse-Midwife will provide high-standard maternal nursing care to vulnerable pregnant women during antenatal care, delivery, postnatal care, and birth injury treatments, including fistula surgeries. The ideal candidate will demonstrate professionalism in midwifery, manage obstetric emergencies competently, and interact with patients with compassion and respect.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide prenatal and postpartum care for pregnant women.
  • Care for patients and newborns during labor and delivery.
  • Perform routine gynecological care, including examinations.
  • Educate patients on parenting and family planning.
  • Maintain accurate patient medical records.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals and refer patients to specialists when necessary.
  • Test for and diagnose various medical conditions.
  • Provide emotional support to expectant and new mothers.
  • Administer vaccinations to children under 5 and provide all types of family planning methods to mothers.
  • Record patient information, tutor student midwives, and identify high-risk pregnancies.
  • Monitor and administer medications, injections, and intravenous infusions during labor.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Skills & Competencies

  • Minimum Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery.
  • Nursing and Midwifery registration certificates from TNMC.
  • Valid nurse practicing license.
  • Minimum 3 years of working experience, preferably in labor wards, RCH, and operating theaters.
  • Competent in managing obstetric emergencies.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and professional patient relationships.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Able to provide compassionate care with kindness and love.
  • Conversant in both English and Kiswahili for effective communication with patients.
  • Teamwork and collaborative skills to work effectively with other medical care providers.
