Job Summary
The school is seeking a dedicated and experienced Canteen Manager to oversee the daily operations of the school canteen. The successful candidate will ensure the provision of safe, nutritious, and affordable meals while maintaining high standards in hygiene, staff supervision, inventory control, and financial management.
This role is key in supporting a healthy and inclusive learning environment for both students and staff.
Key Responsibilities
1. Canteen Operations
- Oversee daily canteen operations, ensuring timely preparation and service of meals
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in line with Tanzanian food safety regulations
- Implement proper food storage, waste management, and inventory control systems
- Ensure efficient service during peak periods
- Manage and respond to customer feedback
2. Staff Supervision
- Recruit, train, and supervise canteen staff
- Prepare duty rosters and monitor attendance
- Promote teamwork and maintain high service standards
- Conduct staff performance evaluations and provide feedback
3. Financial Management
- Prepare and manage the canteen budget
- Monitor daily revenue and expenditure
- Maintain accurate financial records
- Provide periodic financial reports
4. Procurement and Inventory
- Control costs and minimize food waste
- Source quality supplies from reliable vendors
- Negotiate favorable pricing while maintaining quality
- Conduct regular inventory checks and ensure timely procurement
5. Health, Safety, and Compliance
- Ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene standards
- Verify that all staff hold valid health certificates
- Implement food safety training and standard operating procedures
6. Customer Service and Community Engagement
- Address feedback from students, parents, and staff
- Promote initiatives that encourage healthy eating habits within the school community
Qualifications
- Minimum: Diploma in Hospitality Management, Food & Beverage Management, Catering, or a related field
- Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management or Business Management is an added advantage
- Proven experience in canteen, catering, or food service management
- Strong knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards
- Demonstrated leadership, financial management, and customer service skills
- Experience in an international or multicultural environment is an added advantage
