Role Overview
As an Investment Intern, you will support the investment team in evaluating and executing deals, streamlining internal operations, and enhancing Sayuni Capital’s visibility in the market. This role provides hands-on experience in private credit and SME finance, with the potential to progress to an Investment Analyst role based on performance.
Key Responsibilities
1. Pipeline Development:
- Conduct outreach to potential companies to develop an investment pipeline
- Initiate conversations with potential borrowers and attend relevant industry events
- Support the development of programs for female-owned SMEs in Tanzania
2. Investment Analysis & Due Diligence:
- Assist in screening companies against Sayuni’s investment criteria, reviewing financials, and conducting credit risk assessments
- Conduct industry and market research to support investment decisions
- Prepare teasers and credit memorandums, participate in borrower calls and site visits
3. Market Research:
- Research target sectors in Kenya and Tanzania
- Track sectoral trends, including regulatory changes, macroeconomic developments, and competitor activity
4. Media & Events:
- Manage Sayuni’s LinkedIn and other social media platforms
- Monitor engagement metrics and propose improvements for online presence
- Represent Sayuni Capital at relevant events, as required
5. Other Support:
- Support fundraising initiatives
- Assist with other business needs as they arise
Candidate Profile
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Business, Engineering, or a related quantitative field (minimum Second Class Upper or equivalent)
- Strong understanding of financial statements and basic accounting principles
- Demonstrated analytical ability and advanced Excel skills
- High attention to detail and ability to work independently with numbers
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred:
- Prior exposure to credit analysis, consulting, banking, or investment roles
- Basic financial modeling skills
- Interest in private credit or SME finance
