Applications are invited for the following positions at Geita Gold Mine:

Offsider

Position purpose Carries out tasks needed to ensure that the mining operation operates in a smooth and efficient manner as guided by your immediate supervisor and trainer.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Complies with all HS&E policies, procedures, and instructions. This includes the correct use of safety devices and protective equipment, prompt reporting of any hazardous situations (which they cannot eliminate or control), making necessary changes, and immediately reporting any accident or injury.
  • Complies with all company policies and procedures that are displayed and amended from time to time.
  • Takes reasonable care for their own safety and that of other persons who may be affected by their acts.
  • Performs machine pre-start checks ensuring inspections and maintenance are carried out on all equipment before use.
  • Ensures that all tools and equipment are serviceable and safe.
  • Must work to minimise equipment downtime and maximise productivity.
  • Must carry out standard workplace inspection practices and prepare the areas for drilling, charging, and scraping in accordance with mine safety procedures.
  • Maintains a high standard of housekeeping.
  • Liaises with the underground shift supervisor to ensure all work is done in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Delivery and pick-up of equipment such as tools, explosives, piping, services, and anything else needed for the smooth operation of the underground.
  • Delivery and pick-up of waste items from underground workers to waste dumps.
  • Removal of waste items from underground workings to waste dumps.
  • Assisting Jumbo Operators with bolting and meshing as required.
  • Set up headings with bolt and mesh and assist service crew when possible.

Minimum requirements

  • Underground mining experience in hard rock mechanised mine would be beneficial.
  • Must have exposure to Sandvik Drill Equipment Jumbo, Solo, Q-Box.
  • Strong background working in underground mining.
  • Ability to operate all types of hand tools.
  • Understanding of maintenance procedures.
  • Ability to read maintenance procedures.
  • Excellent service and maintenance approach to the job.
  • Willingness to learn and gain further experience.
  • Positive attitude to labour-intensive duties.
  • Highly motivated self-starter with the ability to work autonomously.

Essential requirements (general)

  • Completion of secondary school.
  • Basic numeracy and verbal/written English.
