Position: Corporate Credit Manager
Job Summary
The Corporate Credit Manager leads the corporate credit function by overseeing:
- Credit assessment and structuring
- Approval processes
- Portfolio monitoring
This role also involves leading a team of Credit Managers, ensuring sound risk management, regulatory compliance, and sustainable business growth.
Key Responsibilities
1. Credit Origination
- Lead and manage a team preparing high-quality credit applications
- Assess and analyse credit requests to provide suitable solutions
- Engage clients to gather financial and deal-related information
- Collaborate with Relationship Managers (RM) and product teams to structure credit facilities
- Prepare and present credit applications for approval
- Ensure all compliance pre-clearances are obtained
- Coordinate documentation and disbursement processes
- Analyse financial statements (historical and projected)
- Participate in client meetings on credit-related matters
- Ensure adherence to internal and regulatory credit policies
- Liaise with credit teams for approvals and limit allocations
2. Portfolio Monitoring
- Monitor portfolio quality through past dues and excess tracking
- Ensure timely submission of key reports (EW, RRCC, excess reports)
- Track risk triggers, covenants, and credit conditions
- Maintain up-to-date client financial records
- Ensure 100% KYC compliance for borrowing clients
- Identify early warning signals to prevent account deterioration
- Participate in relationship team meetings and provide strategic insights
- Conduct stress testing and industry analysis
- Prepare credit opinions and reports
- Maintain audit readiness and effective use of credit systems
3. Risk & Control Management
- Apply risk frameworks and promote a strong risk-aware culture
- Ensure compliance with all internal policies and procedures
- Report and analyse risk incidents and implement preventive measures
- Continuously improve control processes
- Engage with regulatory bodies where necessary
- Monitor portfolio risks and escalate deviations appropriately
- Support anti-money laundering (AML) efforts through:
- Customer identification and due diligence
- Monitoring suspicious transactions
- Maintaining proper records
4. Regulatory & Business Conduct
- Uphold the highest standards of ethics and integrity
- Comply with all regulatory requirements and internal policies
- Take responsibility for managing risk, compliance, and conduct issues
- Promote a culture aligned with Absa’s values and code of conduct
Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma in:
- Business
- Commerce
- Management Studies
