Mkwawa Leaf Tobacco Limited (MLTL) invites applications from suitable and qualified Candidates to fill the following vacancies.

1. JOB TITLE: GOOD AGRICULTULRAL PRACTICE TECHNICIAN (GAP TECHNICIAN) – 38 POSITIONS.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Conducts regular visits to farmers to assess and record all activities and give feedback to company representative.
  • Make sure farmers follow all Good Agricultural Practice farming procedures (GAP).
  • Make sure farmers follow all Agricultural Labour Practice requirements (ALP).
  • Conducts NTRM risk assessment and barn compliance assessment.
  • Assists in preparations of production estimates.
  • Ensures plant count exercise is being carried out to the farmers as per described plant count procedures to obtain first production estimates.
  • Ensures company crop survey is being conducted to the farmers as per required parameters to obtain second production estimates.
  • Ensures company bale count is being achieved by 100% to the farmers to obtain Final production estimates.
  • Ensures barn count exercise is being conducted to the farmers at 100% honesty and correctly.
  • Provide all technical assistants on tobacco production to farmers.
  • Maintains good relationship with farmers and primary society Leadership to ensure company image/reputation is well protected.
  • Advises and trains farmers on progress of seedbeds, field management harvest and market preparation is done timely.
  • Performs all tasks as per company EHS standards.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • At least diploma in General Agriculture, Crop production, Agriculture extension, Agronomy, Horticulture, Agriculture economics and Agribusiness or related field.
  • Experience in extension services and outreach programs.
  • Computer skills specifically in application software (MS Word/ PowerPoint and Excel).
  • Training skill is an added advantage.
  • Good Communication skills.

Additional Requirements:

  • A valid motorbike driver’s license
  • Willingness to live and work in remote areas.

Reporting:

The incumbent will report directly to the Agronomy Area Coordinator on a day-to-day activities.

2. JOB TITLE: BARN UPGRADE PROJECT SUPERVISOR – 04 POSITIONS

Roles and Responsibilities:

    • Promote the barn upgrade project among contracted PS and encourage them to make the necessary preparations (burnt bricks, water, and sand).
    • Compile the eligible farmers’ list and the number of barns to be upgraded for each Primary Society.
    • Allocate identified barns to vendors for upgrading.
    • Supervise and monitor vendors to ensure all activities are carried out according to technical specifications, safety standards, and project timelines.
    • Provide regular progress reports and feedback to the project management team.
    • Inspect, test, and sign off on upgraded barns after farmers’ approval.
    • Coordinate with GAP Technicians, primary society leaders, farmers, village leaders, and other stakeholders and project staff as required.
    • Support in resolving on-site challenges and after-sales service to ensure smooth project implementation.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A minimum of Certificate in Agriculture, Forestry, Civil Engineering, or any related field.
  • Computer skills specifically in application software (MS Word/ PowerPoint and Excel).
  • Training skills are an added advantage.
  • Good communication, supervisory, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Previous experience in barn construction projects and basic GIS knowledge will be considered an added advantage.
  • A VALID DRIVING LICENCE and the ability to ride a motorbike are MANDATORY.

Additional Requirements:

  • Competence on Motorbike driving with a valid motorbike driving license.
  • Ability to travel to various project sites.
  • Willingness to live and work in remote areas.

Reporting:
The incumbent will report directly to Agronomy Area Coordinator (AAC) on a day-to-day activities.

Remunerations:
Salary offered for these positions is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
