Job Vacancy: Project Coordinator – NGO & Farmer Engagements

Union Service Stores Ltd (USSL) is seeking a competent Project Coordinator to manage and coordinate development-focused initiatives with smallholder farmers. USSL is a growing agribusiness and industrial company partnered with IDH as an off-taker in the maize value chain.

Position Overview

• Role: Project Coordinator – NGO & Farmer Engagements

• Location: Tanzania (Field-based with travel to project areas)

• Reporting To: Management / Project Steering Committee

Key Responsibilities

The Project Coordinator will be responsible for planning, implementing, and monitoring NGO-related agricultural projects in the grain value chain.

1. Project Planning & Implementation

• Coordinate implementation of farmer engagement projects in the maize value chain.

• Develop work plans, budgets, and implementation schedules.

• Ensure timely delivery of project milestones and objectives.

• Coordinate field activities, including farmer mobilization and training.

2. Stakeholder & Partnership Management

• Serve as the focal point between USSL, IDH, NGOs, and farmer groups.

• Coordinate engagement with farmer cooperatives, aggregators, and extension officers.

• Support the development of long-term farmer sourcing relationships.

3. Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting

• Develop monitoring tools and track project progress against targets.

• Prepare technical reports, donor updates, and internal management reports.

• Maintain documentation for compliance and audit purposes.

4. Farmer Value Chain Coordination

• Support farmer onboarding and registration processes.

• Coordinate input support programs such as seed, fertilizer, and training.

• Monitor production forecasts and coordinate aggregation for maize sourcing.

5. Compliance & Risk Management

• Align project implementation with IDH and NGO partner requirements.

• Monitor risks and propose mitigation measures.

• Ensure adherence to environmental and social compliance standards.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Rural Development, Development Studies, Project Management, or a related field. A Master’s degree is an added advantage.

• Experience: Minimum 5 years of proven experience in Non-Profit or development projects.

• Technical Skills: Strong experience working with smallholder farmers and agricultural value chains (maize preferred).

• Collaboration: Experience working with donor-funded projects, cooperatives, AMCOS, or farmer groups.

• Knowledge: Familiarity with market linkage/off-taker models is highly preferred.
