Program and Finance Assistant (2 Positions)

Reports To: Regional Program Coordinator (with dotted line to Finance Manager)
Location: Geita and Katavi
Assignment Type: Full-time
Contract Duration: One year (renewable based on performance and funding)
Organization Overview
Thamini Uhai is a Tanzanian non-governmental organization working in partnership with the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania since 2008. The organization focuses on reducing maternal and early neonatal mortality and strengthening health systems in underserved rural areas.
From 2008 to 2019, Thamini Uhai collaborated with Bloomberg Philanthropies and the Ministry of Health to improve Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (EmONC) services and scale respectful maternity care interventions across Kigoma, Katavi, Geita, and Mwanza regions.
Programme Background
Thamini Uhai is implementing the Partnership Program for Comprehensive and Integrated Maternal and Newborn Health Improvement (Mjamzito na Mtoto Salama).
This five-year initiative is supported by:
- Bloomberg Philanthropies
- Gates Foundation
The program is implemented in Geita, Katavi, and Kigoma regions from September 2025 to June 2030 in two phases.

- Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (EmONC)
- Postpartum Hemorrhage (PPH) management
- Antenatal care
- Comprehensive newborn care
- Care for small and sick newborns
The program also supports the Ministry of Health in strengthening technical guidelines and learning resources.
Position Summary
The Program and Finance Assistant will support both programmatic and financial functions to ensure efficient implementation of project activities, compliance with donor requirements, accurate financial management, and proper documentation.
Key Responsibilities
1. Program Support
- Support planning, coordination, and implementation of program activities
- Coordinate field activities, community outreach, and stakeholder engagement
- Assist in communication with partners, beneficiaries, and local authorities
- Support development of work plans, budgets, and activity schedules
- Coordinate logistics for trainings, workshops, and field activities
- Support monitoring, evaluation, data collection, and reporting
- Assist in preparing program narrative reports
- Maintain proper documentation and filing of program records
2. Financial Management Support
- Assist in preparation and monitoring of regional office budgets
- Coordinate payments including advances, reimbursements, and vendor payments
- Maintain financial records and filing systems
- Manage petty cash for the regional office
- Ensure compliance with financial policies and donor regulations
3. Administrative Support
- Maintain organized physical and electronic filing systems
- Schedule maintenance and repair of office equipment
- Prepare meeting minutes and follow up action points
- Manage front desk operations
- Maintain asset registers and inventory records
- Track consumable supplies and office resources
- Ensure availability of office supplies and equipment
- Coordinate travel arrangements and logistics
- Schedule drivers for field visits and meetings
- Support procurement processes in line with policies
- Assist in receiving and verifying deliveries against invoices
- Maintain key and access control systems
- Assist in preparation of purchase requests
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in:
- Accounting
- Finance
- Business Administration
- Project Management
- Or related field
- Minimum 2–3 years’ relevant experience, preferably in an NGO environment
- Basic knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting
- Experience in donor-funded projects is an added advantage
- Strong communication skills in English and Kiswahili
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
