Details
Mission and objectives
Founded in 1948, WHO is the United Nations agency that connects nations, partners and people to promote health, keep the world safe and serve the vulnerable – so everyone, everywhere can attain the highest level of health.
Context
World Immunization Week, celebrated annually during the last week of April, is a global initiative launched by the World Health Organization (WHO) aimed at promoting the importance of vaccination worldwide. This year’s campaign theme, ‘Immunization for all is humanly possible,’ highlights the successes of vaccination over the past 50 years and seeks to further raise awareness of the importance of vaccination for public health. In Tanzania, the health situation remains fragile, with recurrent outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases such as measles, polio and other epidemic diseases. Challenges include insufficient vaccination coverage rates, limited health infrastructure, and hard-to-reach populations. In this context, WHO Tanzania, in collaboration with UNV, is launching an online awareness campaign to strengthen vaccination coverage in Niger.
