Safety Officer

About the Role
The Barrick Africa and Middle East Team is seeking a qualified Safety Officer to support and strengthen occupational health and safety systems at North Mara Mine.
The role focuses on ensuring compliance with safety standards, promoting a zero-harm culture, and supporting continuous improvement in safety performance across all operations.

Key Responsibilities
Safety Systems & Compliance
- Support implementation of Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems
- Assist in applying ISO 45001:2018 standards
- Ensure compliance with company safety standards and legal requirements
- Maintain the nine elements of Barrick’s Safety and Health Management System
Risk Management & Inspections
- Facilitate risk assessments (Baseline, JHA, FLRA)
- Conduct regular safety inspections across all operational areas
- Promote a proactive risk management culture
Incident Management
- Assist and facilitate accident/incident investigations
- Ensure proper reporting using approved methodologies
- Follow up on corrective actions and ensure closure
Training & Awareness
- Develop safety training materials
- Deliver safety training to employees and contractors
- Conduct safety observations and provide coaching
Reporting & Monitoring
- Prepare safety statistics (weekly, monthly, quarterly, annual)
- Compile monthly safety reports for site-wide reporting
- Provide daily activity feedback to the Safety Supervisor
Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with departments, contractors, and project teams
- Participate in safety meetings and reviews
- Support integration of safety practices across operations
Equipment & Operational Safety
- Monitor equipment maintenance systems (pre-start checks, schedules, fault reporting)
- Ensure systems are auditable and compliant
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (OHS)
- NEBOSH or NOSHC certification
- Certificate III/IV in Occupational Health and Safety
Experience & Skills
- Minimum 3 years of mining experience (preferably in a process plant)
- Knowledge of Safety and Health Management Systems and ISO 45001
- Experience in incident investigation and reporting
- Understanding of process safety management systems
- Valid Tanzania driver’s license
