Job Opportunity: Field Technician at Northern Engineering Works Ltd (NEWL)

Northern Engineering Works Ltd (NEWL) is seeking a dedicated and skilled Field Technician to join their Operations team. This role focuses on executing standardized preventive and corrective maintenance for sites and generators according to established Service Level Agreements (SLA).


Position Details

  • Job Title: Field Technician

  • Reporting Line Manager: Regional Operational Lead

  • Location: Various field locations

  • Availability: Standby essential $24/7 \times 365$

Key Responsibilities

  • Site Maintenance: Execute site preventive maintenance according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and ensure 100% DC power availability.

  • Technical Support: Attend callouts within ETR time, terminate and configure site alarms, and perform site earth measurements.

  • Asset Management: Maintain generators per manufacturer recommendations, maintain air conditioner units per SLA, and ensure site fire extinguishers are serviced.

  • Reporting & Data: Maintain high data integrity on Service Now and submit detailed Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for corrective maintenance tasks.

  • Logistics & Inventory: Close Fuel Delivery Work Orders (FDWO) and Luku tasks, maintain GMT store, and request replenishment of spares daily.

Safety & Compliance (SHEQ)

  • Adhere to all SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality) compliance tasks.

  • Report at least five near misses and one hazard every month.

  • Ensure no planned work begins without a Field Level Risk Assessment.

  • Maintain a Journey Management Plan for drives exceeding 150km or 3 hours.

  • Perform daily vehicle inspections and attend mandatory OSHA medical examinations.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Education: Diploma or Bachelor’s in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.

  • Experience: At least 2 years of proven experience in the telecommunications industry.

  • Registration: Must be registered with EWURA and ERB.

  • Driving: Valid driver’s license with a clean record and strong driving skills.

  • Technical Skills: Strong IT skills (Excel, MS Word, PowerPoint) and familiarity with power infrastructure installation at BTS sites.
