Job Purpose
The Packaging Shift Manager is responsible for leading packaging shift teams to ensure that production targets are met safely and efficiently. All output must comply with company quality standards and packaging specifications.
Key Responsibilities
🛡️ Safety & Compliance
- Ensure safety of all team members during shifts
- Enforce PPE compliance and take corrective action when necessary
- Oversee safe machine practices (PTW, LOTO, SAM procedures)
⚙️ Production & Operations
- Execute daily production schedules, including:
- Changeovers
- Cleaning and lubrication
- Autonomous maintenance
- Operate equipment when necessary and provide hands-on support
- Ensure all process checks are completed at required intervals
📦 Quality Assurance
- Ensure all packaged products meet quality standards
- Manage operator compliance and adherence to procedures
- Address out-of-control processes using problem-solving techniques
📊 Reporting & Continuous Improvement
- Complete end-of-shift reports for proper handovers
- Conduct QFR, 5-Why analysis, and abnormality reporting
- Verify adherence to daily operational routines
👥 Team Leadership
- Train and develop team members
- Manage workforce scheduling and hourly staff
- Resolve operational issues during shifts
- Implement Training Needs Analysis (TNA) plans
- Escalate major issues to management
Minimum Requirements
🎓 Education
- Bachelor’s degree in:
- Electrical Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Industrial Engineering
- Instrumentation
- Chemical / Process Engineering
🏭 Experience
- 3–5 years of factory production experience
- Proven experience in shift production environments
- Completion of packaging traineeship, learnership, or artisan training
