🌍 Senior Advisor – Health (WASH)

Contract: Fixed-term (14 months)

Travel: Up to 30% international
📌 Job Purpose
The Senior Advisor – Health is a senior technical leadership role supporting global WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) programming.
Working closely with the Health Lead, you will:
- Provide high-level technical advisory support
- Strengthen WASH–health integration
- Drive programme quality, learning, and innovation
- Contribute to global strategy, fundraising, and partnerships
This role carries significant autonomy and positions you as a subject-matter authority across WaterAid’s global operations.
🌐 Duty Stations
Must be legally eligible to work in one of the following countries:
- Ghana, Liberia, Mali
- Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda
- Zambia, Mozambique, Malawi
- Nepal, Pakistan
- United Kingdom (London – Canary Wharf)
💰 Salary
- UK: £52,468 + benefits
- Other countries: Based on local grading (Grade F)
🧭 Key Responsibilities
1. Technical Advisory & Programme Support (50%)
- Lead WASH and health integration strategies
- Support:
- WASH in healthcare facilities
- Public & environmental health
- Health systems strengthening
- Provide expertise in:
- Cholera, nutrition, maternal & child health
- Neglected tropical diseases
- Infection prevention & control
- Guide:
- Project design, implementation, monitoring, evaluation
- Deliver training, coaching, and capacity building
- Act as technical authority across programmes
2. Knowledge Management & Learning (15%)
- Capture and share programme knowledge globally
- Identify gaps and lead applied research initiatives
- Strengthen learning systems and knowledge platforms
3. Standards & Guidance Development (5%)
- Develop technical frameworks and global guidance
- Ensure consistent application across country programmes
4. Fundraising & External Engagement (20%)
- Contribute to proposal development and donor engagement
- Support strategic positioning and advocacy
- Build and maintain global WASH partnerships and networks
5. Team Contribution (10%)
- Support PSK planning, budgeting, and reporting
- Promote cross-team collaboration and integration
🎓 Essential Requirements
Education & Experience
- Postgraduate degree (or equivalent experience)
- Strong experience in:
- WASH & health integration
- Public/environmental health
- Health systems & programming
- Proven track record in technical advisory roles
Core Skills
- Advanced problem-solving in complex environments
- Strong technical writing & knowledge product development
- Experience in capacity building and training delivery
- Excellent collaboration across multicultural teams
- Strong organizational and delivery skills

- Systems strengthening experience
- Background in sustainable development
