Job Description
Role Purpose
The Privacy Specialist will support the day-to-day implementation of privacy policy controls within the company and its subsidiaries.
The role focuses on ensuring that privacy requirements are effectively embedded across:
- Products
- Services
- Operations
- Data processing activities
- Business processes
in alignment with the company’s Privacy Management Policy and applicable data protection regulations.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs)
- Ensuring completion of Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) before product or service launch
- Conducting periodic assessments and re-assessments of:
- High-risk products
- Medium-risk products
- Low-risk products
- Operational processes
Security and Privacy Compliance
- Supporting implementation of:
- Security and Privacy by Design and Assurance (SPDA)
- Ensuring privacy requirements are embedded into operational processes
Cross-Border Data Transfer Compliance
Responsibilities include:
- Preparing and submitting cross-border data transfer permit applications
- Coordinating required documentation with the:
- Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC)
Tracking and Reporting
The Privacy Specialist will maintain trackers for:
- PIAs
- DPIAs
- Data transfer applications
- Risk assessment status
- Privacy control implementation progress
Privacy Governance
Responsibilities include:
- Tracking implementation of privacy controls under the Privacy Management Policy
- Ensuring ad-hoc data requests are routed through the Privacy team for:
- Assessment
- PIA review
- Approval
- Supporting implementation of the:
- Personal Data Processing Register (PDPR)
Operational Privacy Support
The role also includes:
- Responding to operational privacy-related queries
- Supporting internal and external privacy communications
- Performing additional duties assigned by management
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should possess:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in:
- Telecommunications
- Information Security
- Cyber Security
- Information Technology
- Computer Science
Added Advantage
- Degree or Diploma in Law
Required Skills and Competencies
The ideal candidate should demonstrate:
Technical Knowledge
Strong understanding of:
- Information Technology systems
- Privacy and compliance frameworks
- Data protection practices
Technology and Compliance Frameworks
Knowledge of the following frameworks is required:
- ISO/IEC 27001
- SOC 2
- SOX
- ITIL
- COBIT
- King IV
- NIST
Computer Skills
- High computer literacy
- Strong proficiency in:
- Microsoft Word
- Microsoft Excel
Communication and Interpersonal Skills
Candidates should possess:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Fluency in:
- English
- Kiswahili
- Ability to explain technical information to non-technical stakeholders
- Strong teamwork and interpersonal abilities
- Customer- and business-oriented mindset
