Services are delivered from Kivulini Maternity Centre, located outside Arusha in Northern Tanzania.


About the Role

The organization is seeking a qualified and compassionate Nurse-Midwife to provide high-quality maternal care to vulnerable pregnant women.

The role covers:

  • Antenatal care
  • Labour and delivery support
  • Postnatal care
  • Management of birth injuries, including fistula cases

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong midwifery competence, professionalism in obstetric care, and a compassionate approach to maternal health.

The position also offers opportunities for continuous learning, mentorship, and professional development through local and international training programmes.


Key Responsibilities

The Nurse-Midwife will be responsible for:

  • Providing prenatal and postnatal care for mothers
  • Assisting women during labour and delivery
  • Performing routine gynaecological examinations
  • Educating patients on parenting and family planning
  • Maintaining accurate medical records
  • Collaborating with healthcare professionals
  • Referring patients to specialists when needed
  • Diagnosing and screening medical conditions
  • Offering emotional support to mothers and newborns
  • Administering childhood vaccinations (under 5 years)
  • Providing family planning services
  • Monitoring and administering medication, injections, and IV infusions during labour
  • Identifying high-risk pregnancies
  • Training and supervising student midwives
  • Performing other assigned clinical duties

Qualifications, Skills & Competencies

Applicants should have:

  • Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery
  • Valid TNMC registration certificates
  • Current nurse practising licence
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience (preferably labour ward, RCH, or theatre)
  • Competence in managing obstetric emergencies
  • Strong interpersonal and patient care skills
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Office)
  • Fluency in English and Kiswahili
  • Ability to work in a collaborative healthcare team
  • Compassionate, ethical, and patient-centered care approach
