Nurse Specialist Supervisor

Role Overview
This role is responsible for ensuring high-quality nursing care in the Operating Theatre (OT), with strong focus on:
- Surgical patient safety
- Infection prevention and sterilization standards
- OT workflow coordination (24/7 services)
- Staff supervision and training
- Collaboration with multidisciplinary medical teams
You act as the clinical and operational lead for the theatre nursing team.
Core Responsibilities
1. Operating Theatre Coordination
- Organize daily and weekly OT schedules with surgeons
- Ensure smooth theatre workflow (elective + emergency cases)
- Manage patient flow and handover between departments (Maternity, ER, Inpatient, Neonatal)
2. Clinical Quality & Patient Safety
- Enforce MSF OT protocols and hygiene standards
- Ensure infection prevention and control (IPC) compliance
- Monitor patient care quality and continuity
- Participate in medical rounds and follow-up care planning
3. Team Leadership & Supervision
- Supervise OT nurses, nurse aides, sterilization technicians, and cleaners
- Plan staff rosters, leave schedules, and task allocation
- Provide coaching, mentoring, and on-the-job training
- Promote respectful maternity care and patient dignity
4. Sterilization & Equipment Management
- Ensure proper sterilization processes are followed
- Monitor availability and correct use of surgical instruments
- Report biomedical equipment faults
- Coordinate preventive maintenance with biomedical/logistics teams
5. Supply Chain & Inventory Control
- Manage OT stock (drugs, consumables, cleaning supplies, stationery)
- Track usage and prevent shortages or overstocking
- Prepare weekly orders and monitor consumption trends
6. Reporting & Documentation
- Maintain OT registers and patient records
- Compile monthly activity reports
- Participate in data collection and analysis
- Ensure accuracy of clinical documentation
7. Quality Improvement
- Conduct regular audits of OT procedures
- Identify gaps and implement corrective actions
- Strengthen adherence to SOPs and surgical safety standards
- Support continuous quality improvement initiatives

Required Qualifications
- Diploma in Nursing (mandatory)
- Valid TNMC registration/practicing license (mandatory)
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in Operating Theatre nursing
- Experience with NGOs or MSF is an advantage
- Experience in resource-limited or emergency settings is highly valued
Skills Required
- Swahili & English (essential)
- Computer literacy (Word, Excel, internet)
- Strong clinical and infection control knowledge
- Ability to manage teams and high-pressure environments
