Job Purpose

The Chief Cashier is responsible for the overall management and security of the branch’s cash operations, including teller coordination, vault administration, and handling all transactions with the Bank of Tanzania (BOT). This role assists the Branch Manager in cash management and coordinates teller activities.

Key Responsibilities

Cash Management and Security

• Checking and recounting cash received from the tellers.
• Preparing daily cash positions for various currencies.
• Depositing and withdrawing cash with/from the Bank of Tanzania (BOT).
• Loading cash onto the ATM.
• Managing cash exchange between tellers and when a till is taken over by another teller.
• Keeping custody of the strong room keys and ensuring the safety of cash and documents within the strong room.

Supervision and Control

• Authorizing cash receipts (deposits) received by tellers.
• Conducting snap checks on the vault cash deposits to verify the propriety of the amounts.
• Carrying out spot checks over teller’s cash balance or cash deposited at the vault.
• Asking for explanations from Tellers regarding cash shortages or excesses.
• To undertake till balancing and administration activities in an effective and compliant manner.
• Interchange or rotate tellers (e.g., front office tellers, bulk cash tellers, BOT cash counting tellers, etc.).

Support and Reporting

• Assisting the Branch Manager in managing cash and coordinating the work of tellers.
• Informing the I.T. department immediately whenever technical problems arise.
